FYI people, his aircraft is large & has two engines. If you’re interested in flying a smaller, four seater, single engine aircraft the costs are much less.

Another classic case of "if you have to ask, you can't afford it."

This is NOT the typical GA (general aviation) airplane. You can own a basic Cessna 172 for about $175/hr for everything. Most people don't fly enough to justify owning so they can get 1-2 partners. That cuts the cost by 1/2 or 2/3. I park next to a Beech V35B that is owned by 5 different people. They each contribute 1/5 to the total ownership costs, and each pays for their own fuel when they take trips. The plane burns about 13gph @ $7/gal.

You can also rent. Which is what most GA pilots do. Rental costs range from $100-200/hr depending on type of plane and location. BUT you don't worry about maintenance, upkeep, repairs, etc.

We all have our expenses. I pay $1.25 just for gasoline to drive to Costco, 4 miles from my home. Plus the cost of the car, insurance, car washes, etc. Then double that because I’ll want to get back home.

I was talking with a young pilot 35 years ago who was getting a type rating (training) in a 737. The only thing I remember from the conversation was that a Boeing 737 costs $300 per minute to operate (in 1988).

Lesson: Don't fly, just enjoy your local neighborhood on foot.

If you're paying $35, 000 for an annual inspection, you are getting hosed by your IA.

$35000 seems a little steep for an annual!

I see in that first clip you're down by the TAC hangers in Scottsdale. If you're ever back down I'd love to take a flight with you or even meet. Awesome video keep up the good work and I subbed

That is why I fly a Mooney. I would love to fly a twin (or single) turboprop but the $$$ are way out of my budget!

Add more pax seats to increase available seat miles and get that load factor up!

I have a home built airplane that costs me about $100/hour total. Things are super cheap when you can fix them yourself.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Really fun to fly as well.

This is so informative and cool, I’ve always been curious about the actual cost. Thanks for sharing!

This overstates the cost to fly the plane. The title is cost to FLY the plane, not total costs. Fixed costs are not part of the cost to fly the plane: fixed costs occur whether you fly or not. Under Variable cost, you can elect to put away engine & Prop money or not; however, no one has a reserve for the replacement of a car engine, so why have one for a plane?
