The 2024 European Athletics championships in Rome lived up to the hype with some surprising performances on the track. And even though, Dutch track sensation, Femke Bol was coming into this meet intending to repeat her triple gold showing from the 2022 Euros in Munich, things just didn’t work out as expected. In her very first race, Bol competed in the mixed 4 by 400 meters relay, but sadly, her desire to anchor team Netherlands to a gold medal finish was thwarted by an inspired Irish quartet, led by the phenomenal Rhasidat Adeleke. The Irish team, featuring Christopher O’Donnell, Thomas Barr, and Rhasidat Adeleke, anchored by Sharlene Mawdsley clocked an incredible championship record of 3 minutes and 9.92 seconds.
