Love this story arc! Never knew about the tie-in to the X comics though, i always thought they went from Moebius straight to the Sol Dimension.

This story has an amazing portrayal of Shadow. He got Metal Sonic off Möebius before Metal could make a bad situation worse, tried to peacefully resolve his conflict with Metal by empathizing with him, and when Metal refused to listen, he worked together with Blaze and Marine and blew Ol’ Chrome Dome up. And this was just Part 1 of an amazing 4 part arc with Shadow as the protagonist where he continues to have amazing characterization. Archie Shadow was a chad, and he’s right up there with 06 Shadow for my favorite portrayal of our favorite red and black hedgehog.

One of the few times where entirely different Sonic continuities officially crossed over. Only other times I can remember were when Archie Sonic met the band from Sonic Underground or when Archie Mobius was briefly transformed into Planet Freedom from the OVA.

Bonus fun fact - in Sonic Rivals 2, Shadow and Metal Sonic teamed up to defeat Eggman NEGA. Eventually they ended up in a devastated dimension, defeated Metal Sonic 3.0, the "improved" version of Metal built by NEGA, and then Ifrit, the fire demon which NEGA wanted to release. After that they were stuck in that dimension, as the portal they had entered closed too early, but Metal ripped his own chest to take out the Chaos Emerald he had all along. Shadow then used Chaos Control to transport them both to their dimension.

I think it's quite ironic Archie Shadow teleported himself and Metal Sonic to a dimension with broad oceans and destroyed him there, after Metal was going to kill him, while canon Shadow and Metal fought side to side in a burning dimension, and the latter damaged himself so they could teleport back home.
