Officer asked a reasonable question.
Officer got a reasonable answer.

The deleted scenes from the battle of New York were excellent. Like that cop who grabbed the Chitauri gun and shot down one of these flying things. Right then he gets on the radio - "Get the guns. The guns are very good."

This is typical Captain America. A guy wearing a cartoonishly patriotic suit shows up holding a shield and starts talking. No one takes him seriously until they witness him in action, after which they follow him without question.

It was this way in the comic books, it was this way on TV (X-Men Animated Series), and it was portrayed perfectly in the MCU. I love seeing it.

Ultron once said that Captain America was the most dangerous of the Avengers because he inspired the rest to keep fighting.

I love the trope of cops never wanting to take orders from superheroes, they see what they're up against, and then it's "actually yeah we'll do the support role"

There's something very primal about:
"Why should I listen to you?"
"I can kill what you can't."
"Orders sir."

The NYPD Officer sounded like a boss when he took charge tho

Cap's true power is being an expert tactician and field commander. And he's often been depicted as having a form of charisma when he talks that inspires others.

I remember seeing this in the theater on opening night and everyone laughing hysterically after the cop immediately changed his tune 😂.

I find it impressive that even though he had his doubts he listened and memorized the order word for word

Funny thing is in this situation Cap actually would have legal authority to issue orders to the cops. It's an invasion, and he's the senior active duty US military officer on scene. Local forces such as police take orders from ranking military officers in these kinds of situations. (Not that an ALIEN invasion is the usual thing that is directed at...)

Can we appreciate how on it the cop is? Like initially he’s confused on who cap is but still retained the orders and didnt miss a beat when he realized caps instructions are worth following

Not sure which was more awesome: The humor in this scene when the cop took the Captain's orders, or the heroism in the scene when the SHIELD tech refuses Hydra's commands, based on "Captain's orders." The MCU was really great back then.

0:09 Is something that I sorely miss from these MCU movies. Look at Black Widow and Hawkeye, they're just literally saving people, being heroes, no need for superpowers or extreme CGI effects. They're just...saving them. It feels grounded, "real". They feel like superheroes. While I like some of the newer MCU movies, I miss these moments from the old ones.

1:11 I love how they added the alien's arm slipping out of the gun after it was cut off by Cap.

This is why this movie is my favorite avengers film, it was smooth, casual, and effortlessly made jokes like this. Modern marvel I need a laugh track to actually figure out when they are trying to make a joke

Loved how black widow was multi-tasking, shooting 2 guns and talking, and basically pretty much everything else.

Dude this movie in theaters was life changing. The crowd made this movie so much more than it ever was since. The best part was seeing them stop to save people; every time they did, the theater burst into applause. This scene had the audience cheering, gasping, laughing, and then cheering in a way that I have not forgotten since.

We should all be like this officer. He listened intently, asked reasonable questions, and responded appropriately to the situation as it unfolded.
