I think that was a wax figure or manikin of Copperfield (a hefty one) hanging from an aircraft because they never shoot close-ups, and in the end, they have real Copperfield tight edits. Great illusion!!

You can see the wires moving in the background at about 4:08-4:12. They are partly disguised by the vertical lines of the curtains in the background. However a few of the lines are not exactly vertical, but at a 30 degree angle and move a little, these are the wires. Then in the next shot they are totally gone.
