Everybody wants to get a heart, but everyone is too egoistic to give one.

Wow, this was a bit more intense than I thought it was going to be. It had me on the edge of my seat, that's for sure. It just goes to show that the cycle of greed is endless and it goes on. We fight so hard to get what we want, even though it isn't ours.

I think the heart symbolizes happiness. People fight and die in order to acquire and keep it, but by the time the dust settles it's lost to them, and only those who didn't participate in the fight can benefit from it. It's a cycle that's perpetually repeated.

This shows so much of what are world is today, a growing cycle of greed.. They end up losing everything they had instead of passing it on and making a change.

I saw this as the cycle of a relationship. After she stole his heart, they fought to keep the relationship going until one person became bigger than the relationship. In the end, it died anyway.

I really think it's about a person who finds love and happiness in their life, which is symbolized by his heart. The other people around him, who on the contrary have not found happiness yet, get jealous of his simplicity and innocence, so they are selfish enough to try to still it. The girl represents someone he loved but not enough to give her his heart. At first she gets really sad because she wants to be his everything, she definitely wants his heart, and then she also tries to steal it (she does everything she can to get his heart). In real life this happens a lot... How many times we see someone so pure and happy that it can make others depressed and jealous to a point when they try to make the person feel as bad as they feel? after that, comes anger, stress, and his thoughts get corrupted by all this. In the end the guy ends up by losing that bit of happiness, just like everyone else. The animation is beautiful

Everyone wants emotions, love, compassion and gratification but some "monsters" will try to steal that from them. Even your loved ones can be monsters after your heart.
And yet after you do anything it takes to protect your heart from others, you have become the biggest monster of all, and you have no use for the heart anymore.

He fought for his heart only to lose it when he won the battle :/

To be honest, this story is probably about how the heart is a treasure in which nobody really wants to share with, yet they want to fight for what they want, the heart keeps them alive and strong.

From an interview with Erick Oh:

4. Tell us what “Heart” is about and where the idea for your film came from.

One day I was watching news about political issues and started asking myself why we are destroying one another. Human history shows that life is full of conflicts and struggle. Heart is an 8 minute animated short containing no dialogue. It tells the story of abstract creatures who battle over a heart which symbolizes various differing values in life such as religion, wealth, love, natural resources and so on. In the end, their mixture of desire and greed over the heart leads to their destruction. However, the end is very open ended because it asks the question, ‘what if we approached things differently’. This film doesn’t contain any answers, instead it’s a huge question directed to everyone .

A wretched thing for a heart be toyed,
Never to rest or just to avoid.
The constant masses of greed and lust,
But desperate defines, a broken trust.
Every core that's yearn of wanting,
Yet matters of all but rather of choosing.
The idea to share and let it go,
Or suffer the mad, diminishing woe

The man who produced the music is the same guy who arranged the music for Tron: Legacy, conductor Wish I Was Here, and orchestrated, directed, and arranged music for Dexter. WHAT.

The eternal fight between your heart and your logic (brain/ head). People tend to talk A LOT about love and often forget the real essence of it. Heart... is something to feel... not to think. Let the thinking part be the brain's work. Feel the love. Spread the love.

The heart is different for every being. I noticed this I'm the difference between the man and woman and even in the giant blob. The man kept the heart just on his head but notice the woman showed it affection and seemed to "sucks face" with it. She clung on and wouldn't let go. Then the blob coming from the woman struck me as a maternal/mother type figure, protecting the heart from everyone like a child. I also noticed the color contrast how the heart is the only colored obkect, at first I thought for style but this may be a metaphor itself. It's a bright part of a colorless world, a happy place if you will. That's why they all want it so badly. This is obviously about greed and how far people will go to hold on to what makes them happiest in a awful world. We're entitled to greed in a place like this. In the end, holding on might just destroy you. The last scene I believe is definitely his suicide, and it breaks my heart. This was stunning.

Ok what about that (my own view of this) - the heart was happines, as we know every individual seeks personal happines and when he finds it he tries to keep it, keeping it becomes the purpose of his life. He fights everyone who tries to steal his happines (those were the people that dont have any purpose in their lifes). The man was so into defending his happines that he didnt understand it was linked with the woman's from the moment they met. In the moment he pushed her away thinking he got it back he actually lost it and became just as empty as the other ones, like he never existed... And then someone else is gona go to the same path cos you probably saw the end and the begining are the same.(its interesting... were the ghouls that atacked him people that didnt know happines or did they lost it the same way the man did and became ugly and more and more humanless :)

Excellent music choice, riveting ideas, and satisfying yet mysterious ending. It can be read in many ways, depending on the person.
I saw it as this: Every man is given a gift. Those who have not found theirs often feel insecure and jealous. We all must find, hone, and utilize our gift, careful not to ruin what we are given. What happened here was exactly that. The man found his gift and used it. Others saw it and grew jealous. In the end, the man fought for his gift, regained it, and passed it to someone else.

i think this shows how much selfish the people are in our society...and for their own happiness and needs they don't even care the lives of others....
