New Years Eve Fireworks Celebration in Batumi, Georgia

A friend of a friend sent this amazing video of the city-wide fireworks celebration in Batumi, Georgia on new year’s eve 2023. (This is Georgia, the country, not the state.) My friend said the fireworks are not sponsored by townships; they are paid for by individuals and families. The feeling of the joy and freedom there is very apparent.

Wow, you are lucky to have such friends. I live Down Under where our nanny-state long ago decreed private fireworks verboten, and uncharacteristically I kinda consent now I remember what we got up to as kids back in the day. However nowadays public fireworks are so carefully curated (and boring) that I scorn to even go out onto my porch to watch when I hear them banging off on state endorsed occasions. But the romance of being somewhere exotic like Batumi and a display like this ... I'd drink a jar of one-dollar bootleg vodka to celebrate.
