European Council President Charles Michel urged Chinese President Xi Jinping to use the country's "influence" on Russia over its war in Ukraine as he visited Beijing on Thursday. While the war in Ukraine was the focus of the talks, trade, climate, human rights, covid recovery, Xinjiang and Taiwan were also discussed, Michel said.

what is there to talk about? the only talks that need to take place is how russia will pay for the damage and who will end up in the hague after russia is removed entirely from ukraine(including crimea)

So.... hit China with a multi year trade war (ongoing), then turn around and ask China to help with another international problem not of their making. The EU should have started by demanding any sanctions and tariffs be dropped, before going cap in hand to China... that might have helped. Otherwise, if y’all wish to support Taiwan, maybe ask Taiwan to try and intercede with Russia.

EU President Charles Michel's peace initiative is most welcome. Chinese influence on Russia will only bear fruit if EU members too, urge Ukraine to agrree to peace negotiations with Russia. Hope better sense prevails on both sides before Christmas.

It’s very strange to not see a big parade in the country which have more than 1 billons people for a long while, except 3 city. He definitely doesn't seem like an irrational leader. The West has him vilified as some dictating tyrant but I see otherwise, the fact that something covid restrictions were lifted when The People spoke speaks volume.
