I review, breakdown and explain The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 5. Is anyone else starting to question how Gaitok even landed a job at The White Lotus hotel? What did you think of this episode? Share your thoughts in the comments

I knew it was suspicious that Jaclyn kept on pushing Laurie to Valentin. Cuz in a friendship dynamic like that, it usually means she's the one who really wants the guy 😅

Lochlan used everything Saxon taught him to Saxon himself lol

My face was exactly mirroring Goggins that entire scene

My favorite part of the season is everyone hating on how slow the show is while I’m sitting here enjoying every second.

One thing that no one ever seems to mention is how the music is such a huge part of the story. Try watching at the scenes and then take out all the the music. I think the composer who's done the music for this series in incredibly talented. The music and story go together hand-in-glove.

Was anyone else waiting for Sam Rockwell to say, “I’m just messing with you, man” 😂

Season Three is revealing itself to be perhaps the most fascinating and profound of the franchise thus far. The dark comic take on the Buddhist themes of suffering, desire, identity, and meaning is so compelling. Phenomenal writing, acting, direction, cinematography, and musical score all add to the experience

Excellent breakdown! Did anyone else notice Kate’s PJ’s had cameras on them? I think the Russians know Jaclyn is a celebrity and one of them is going to film her with the other guy to blackmail her? They showed us the door being left open for a reason I’m thinking?

Saxon telling his brother to pace himself and let the girls get messed up. Predatory behavior. But I think Chloe is another kind of predator.

I wasn’t ready for Loughlin and Saxon to go all Targaryen on us.

Looking at Lochi's shirt, you can see crocodiles, which in Buddhism symbolize destructive desires that hinder spiritual growth. As an antagonist in Buddhist narratives, it represents the consuming nature of those desires that can lead to an individual's suffering and eventual downfall. Also, is it worth pointing out that crocs are nature's most ruthless predators?

I think the fact that Rick didn’t act overly shocked and was not judgmental shows what a good friend he can be. He is going to evolve more in the next few episodes. I think Gaitok is the body floating in the water. Poor guy.

sam rockwell's scene was HILARIOUS! it's the facial expressions that get me.

i think fabian is a typical spineless manager. he doesnt wanna do the right thing but he desperately wants to make sure he doesnt rock the boat with management, and that includes not offending the clientele.

The scene with Sam Rockwell w/Googins is Emmy worthy.

What if....Valentin tries to blackmail Jaclyn? They could get more out of her with the threat of a scandalous affair instead of outright robbing them at the resort.
I could see Saxon getting very awkward after this encounter with his brother. He's gonna be completely confused about himself, about his brother and his current worldview

I think there was a missed opportunity to talk about the role of color in this episode.

Orange represented purity and innocence (as highlighted by Piper, Victoria, and Mook)

Blue represented foreboding destruction and devastation (think of how Timothy only wears blue and the Tsunami).

With just these two color metaphors established, we can see how Rick, wearing both blue and orange in this episode is caught between taking vengeance and walking away.

The dancing scene being cast in blue light shows how this night of fun was actually an act of indulgence that would have harmful consequences.

I think red also plays a role in the color theory of the show: unsurprisingly representing active danger and the crest of the harmful indulgence. Think of the pool party and kissing scene all being lit in red.

This episode was masterful in using cinematography to reinforce the themes and stories of all the characters, so I thought I’d leave a note about it.
