Tony Orlando & Dawn ~ Tie a yellow Ribbon round the old Oak Tree (1973)

This song was released in 1973 and was a number 1 hit here in the UK and also in the U.S. In fact song was a worldwide hit and was also number 1 in Australia for 7 weeks and for 10 weeks in New Zealand,a catchy little tune this one.

I first heard this song in the summer of 1973 while returning home from basic training for the U.S. Army Reserves. Although there was no girl left behind or yellow ribbons (for any reason), I always thought of this song as a celebration of MY freedom, especially while in formation one day it was announced the Vietnam War had (or would be) ended. Later on I was elated when Casey Kasem announced it as Billboard's No.1 song for 1973. What a way to commemorate this significant juncture in my life.

I can still remember when this came out in 73. Right when the POW's came home from Vietnam. I watched it on the news with my folks.
