Feel the POWER! A Power Metal collection update!

It has been a while, but I'm glad to be back, this time all oiled up and flexing a mighty stack of power metal releases for the collection.

Glad to see you revisit the power metal topic apart from the livestream you did weeks back, felt like there's so much to explore, of most of the metal genres power metal has been where it's been weakest in the collection because I never had that "tour guide" in my metal developing years to lead toward the majestic power light. Funny, I have no Running Wild albums but have Blazon Stone, I need to correct this… thanks for pointing out the good stuff!

Nice video Marty. I was very much into euro power metal during the late 90s and early 2000 but since then i have not been following it very much. I got tired of the hunderds of copies of STRATOVARIUS, RHAPSODY etc....lol. But i kept listening to RAGE, GRAVE DIGGER, or GAMMA RAY of course, but not to RHAPSODY, VISION DIVINE or HEIMDAL, the italian power metal bands.
STORMWARRIOR did some good thinks, thats for shore. Same with IRON SAVIOR, still going strong today. I keep watching this video Marty. Nice.

The Landing is a fantastic album. Glad Zahler sent you that one for their newer stuff.

For more modern Rage, check out Unity. Great choruses throughout and great riffs too. Also check out Ark - Burn the Sun for some more amazing Jorn Lande vocals and some fantastic songwriting.

The guy behind Blazon Stone has another band called Rocka Rollas which has a fantastic power/speed album called The Road to Destruction that you should check out.

Nice to see you haven't abandoned the collection updates! I've been listening to brutal death metal and slam for over a month straight. Might be time to go back to power metal :P Sometimes I can't listen to certain genres at all no matter how much I enjoy them. It definitely depends on the mood.

Great stack Marty, I'm very picky when it comes to power metal and you've given me a few "new" bands to check out.
Some newer bands you might be interested in checking out are Fury (England), Farseer (Scotland) and Syth (Scotland). I was all for recommending Lost Horizon then you namechecked them and turned me on to Warrior Path, touche!

Great update, Marty! I´m getting there with my Stormwarrior collection, some of their albums are not easy to get or go for way too much money even over here in Germany.
Some of the Iron Savior albums are really awesome, some are just good. On their debut they had drummer Thomen from Blind Guardian, maybe this makes the difference to their other stuff. What a killer record! Speaking of Blind Guardian, imo they lost something by the time they did "Nightfall". I can´t really put my finger on what that is...
I urgently need to get some Masterplan CDs! Never heard a single song by them... BUT (confession!!!): One of my favourite singers is Lou Gramm! AOPM - Airplay Orientated Power Metal, sounds right up my alley!

Hyped to see a new stream from you Friday, man! I saw Hammerfall supporting Death on the Sound of Perseverance tour and I hated them... tried again about a year ago and it still misses its mark. I just can't get behind latter day Euro power metal. Gimme the gruff and succinct American version any day. Rad video as usual nonetheless!

I still need to checkout Masterplan, Rick Altzi does the vocals on a few of their albums, he’s on 4 out 5 Herman Frank (ex-Accept) albums, good stuff if you like U.D.O. or Accept ! I dabble with power metal. It's probably the metal sound I listen to the least. When I'm in the mood I reach for either Blind Guardian or Helloween. I dig the first Demons And Wizards album and "Legacy Of Kings" by Hammerfall. I enjoy Tarja era Nightwish. Do they count?

Have you gotten in to Edguy? I have been listening to them a lot lately, as well as Tobia's "supergroup" project Avantasia. Jorn Lande and Michael Kiske are frequent guests on those albums, you might dig it.
You also might like Savage Circus. It was formed by Thomen Stauch (ex-Blind Guardian drummer) and Piet from Iron Savior plays guitar. I have only heard the first album but it is very much in the style of early speed metal Blind Guardian.

I’ve dabbled in power metal the odd time over the years, but it can become too saccharine and then I move on and return later when I need that sweet fix. I have 3 Kamelot albums, 4th Legacy, Karma and Epica - IMO, that’s all you need. I have the 1st European press of the 4th Legacy and the pictures and booklet are very clear.
If it’s mainly Euro power metal style you like I’d recommend Dark Moor from Spain. The 2 albums with Elisa Martin on vocals are the best - The Hall of the Golden Dreams and (my favourite) The Gates of Oblivion. Mago de Oz is another power metal band from Spain but they mix a lot of folk with their music - it’s quite uplifting.
From Italy you can’t go wrong with Rhapsody when Luca Turilli was in the band. His solo albums are worth checking out too. Another couple of Italian bands are Domine, White Skull (Tales from the North), and Wotan (Carmina Barbarica) they’re a bit more Epic.
One of my favourite German power metal bands outside the usual suspects is Brainstorm. Their album Ambiguity is a personal favourite. They have a bit more muscle about them. Metalium were good too.
The Greeks have quite a few who mix elements of Epic Heavy metal, some of my favourites from there are Airged L’amh (The Silver Arm is epic!), Battleroar, Sacral Rage and Firewind.
From Sweden I’d recommend Morgana Lefay, Tad Morose and Skyfire.
And a few local, Irish bands I think are worth checking: Stereo Nasty, Celtic Legacy, Steel Tormentor, and Rabid Bitch of the North.

Power metal was what got me into metal but I don't listen to it anymore. I haven't gone through the whole video yet, but Iron Fire's debut Thunderstorm and especially the opener The Final Crusade is magical! The first two Sonata Arctica are also great, but Blind Guardian was my favorite band up until Nightfall, Tales From The Twilight World might be one of the albums I have listened to most in my life. I'm gonna check out Stormwarrior (no whiskey though hehe). Legacy of Kings is awesome and slightly better than Glory...Cheers!

Can't go wrong with a bit of power metal to lighten the mood. I've recently found a band called Spell and their album 'Opulent Decay' you may have heard it but that album really took me by surprise. A mix of NWOBHM and Duran Duran's Rio album. To me anyway 🍻
