The amazing Howlin' Wolf (otherwise known as Chester Burnett) recorded on the 19th October 1964 at the Manchester Free Trade Hall as part of the American Folk Blues Festival tour in the UK. What a line up this was with Sugar Pie De Santo, Lightnin' Hopkins and Sonny Boy Williamson on the same bill!!

I can just feel it in his voice the passion he had in his music was electric and it would hit every bone in my body. Sorry if it doesn't do the same for you. Im old so people might disagree or not get that feeling but we did when we were kids. I sure miss the old days but not everything about them. God bless everyone of you all.

I was at this gig. Me and my friend John, we were both 16. Sonny Boy was brilliant too and the great Sleepy John Estes also played with Hammie Nix on jug. Thanks so much for posting. After all this time I haven’t forgotten how great it was!

Willie Dixon (wrote the song), on bass, starts to extend his hand to Wolf at the end of the Smokestack Lightning - 5:04 - and Wolf just ignores him and Willie re-directs his hand.

That's the great Willie Dixon on upright bass, playing there. He wrote too many songs to count but one of his best was the popular Big Boss Man, popularized by Jimmy Reed.
