One Year of Renovating An Old Swedish Log Cabin

First year of me renovating the cabin. Mostly on my own but every now and then I get some help from family and friends. The first year was more about getting to know the cabin and its surroundings. During the summer I focused on working in the garden, painting the house and removing old stuff that had been left there by the previous owner. During the winter I insulated the kitchen floor. In the “spring” I started working on the well. I cleaned it and added gravel to the bottom which works as a filtration system.

We hope you ignore the rude comments and ridiculous suggestions from people who have never renovated a house in Europe. We're in France, are serial renovators (stone houses), and have found the renovation of a timber house in Sweden to be fascinating. Thanks for sharing your process, and good luck from Brittany!

I am a norwegian but now live in Sweden. You doing a splended job with this old 'torp', a swedish word of a small farm. It gets stunning. Don't listen to people that has not worked or used to old scandinavian buildings or renovate metods. ❤😊🎉

Så fantastiskt fin film. Såg hela på en dag. Älskar harmonin utan någon störande musik eller någon som gapar. Jättefint hus verkligen.

I am in love with the house. Sweden has to be a beauty place. To see such a house with earthen materials, has to be a joy to renovate. The bicycles in particular are such a time capsule along with all the newspapers. Enjoying the video.

Pure nostalgia, don't let anyone take that away from you. When I was a child we had a coal/wood stove in the kitchen. That brings back memories. We always cleaned the surface with very fine sandpaper.

Hi, Marcus. You accomplished a lot in one year. I think that replacing the kitchen floor may have been the biggest task. You have done well👏👏👏👏👏

Swedish countryside looks like such a beautiful tranquil place. I think the people here in England have forgotten what it feels like to have a slow paced, relaxed way of life. That lifestyle here comes at a heavy price, like most things. I often say to friends and family I was born at the wrong time in the wrong country. If I wasn't trapped in the modern 100mph system of work sleep repeat(i resist it as much as I can), I think I'd like to live in Sweden for the nature, camping and clean air😁🍺

What you are doing is amazing. I love all the old stuff you found and the way you are doing most of it by hand. Most people don’t do it that way but it’s just like the original. Keep up the great work
