I had to use the -O option to get qemu-img to create the vmdk output option. My command was "qemu-img convert -f raw -O vmdk ./Downloads/raspbx.vmdk"

That is actually pretty interesting. I was about to experiment around with ESXi, that'll give me a head start

For me the qemu-img command only worked if I included "-O vmdk". I think you just forgot to enter it

I keep on getting this error:
Failed - Unsupported or invalid disk type 2 for 'scsi0:0'. Ensure that the disk has been imported.
I used the -O option as well. But no luck, any other ideas?

I am trying to install the grub boot loader, but it won't work. It looks like the install packages for debian are not available anymore. I am using currently debian version 10.7.0. Do someone of you guys have any suggestions? 😀

I have a problem with converting the IMG into VMDK via QEMU on Windows ...
The conversion was done without any error-message, but by trying to use the VMDK in my vm-Ware-Machine it appears the error "internal error".
I don't know what went wrong.
Any idea?

Thanks! BTW, I had to try, I put one of my free VMware vSphere 7 Hypervisor licenses on my ARM esxi, grants up to 8-way SMP with an expiration date of Never. Gets rid of that annoying nag bar about expiring in 180 days etc.. Apparently the license does not care if it's x86 or ARM based as long as it is valid. Installing open-vm-tools on the guests helps as well!

Followed your steps on unzipping the Zip and converting the img file to vmdk but after converting to thin, I get an error stating that my file is not a valid vmdk file. Any suggestions much appreciated

Great video! Thanks for that! I have a similar environment to build, but have some questions,

I have a different type of program customised for configuring devices( switches, servers) from the pi itself using its ports, it doesn't need to run raspbian or so, it just opens itself through a kvm connected to the laptop, and then with an app in the laptop it opens and you start configuring
1st question is, - Is it possible to maybe install mine based on pi, in esxi and have physical ports( usb, eth) available?
2nd Question - can this be installed in a virtual machine( virtualbox, vmplayer) instead?
3rd Question - Can this be uploaded to any service in the cloud and just log in and be able to use the physical ports in my laptop?

The main reason I want to do this is to get rid of using the Pi and kvm as it's a lot of cables and devices just want to use the laptop itself with enabled ports and do the configs I need.

Appreciate any comments or questions.

Thanks!!!

Is there a way to still use the gpio output? For example to use dietpi as a Nas and for mopedy and next to it android TV to watch TV. In that case both would have a audio output and need the i2s output for an app
