Brachytherapy has a robust track record as a treatment for prostate cancer. The technique involves positioning radioactive materials inside the prostate to kill the tumour.

But this treatment seems to be going out of fashion, in favour of more modern, more expensive alternatives. Since evidence suggests that brachytherapy is cost-effective for some patients, many oncologists are keen to make sure it remains an option.

I don't know where you got the information that brachytherapy is falling out of use. I live in Florida and recently had the procedure done. It is available all over the state and throughout the U.S. The reason surgery is often recommended by doctors is that it is more profitable for the clinics and many doctors don't have experience with brachytherapy. The convenience of brachytherapy as an outpatient procedure is one of the reasons why it is very popular.
