The official trailer for the gun-toting Otomo Clan for Total War: SHOGUN 2!

One of the major clans of the lands of Kyushu, the Otomo were among the first to make contact with the Europeans -- regularly trading with the Portuguese, and eventually converting to the Christian faith.

As pioneers of gunpowder in Japan, the Otomo bring that renowned expertise to the battlefield. The Otomo introduce four new land units and a new naval unit. Leased land (one building slot per city) provides a core injection of wealth if traded to the Portuguese, and a new building subchain brings the Hospital, Jesuit Seminary and Jesuit College to your campaign to provide major bonuses to the spread of Christianity.

Nanban means european, and it are not only Portuguese, it are also Dutch, who later became the only ones who where alowed to trade with the Empire of the rissing sun, untli the yanks shelled japan into submission.

Nanban means Southern Barbarian and the Portuguese fit the description ( the Southern part, not barbarian ) by being tanned due to the Southern weather of Europe. If you found the Black ship, it hoists a Portuguese flag. I knew the Dutch also came, but the time that the game presents refer still to the Portuguese Discovery age.

What's your point? All the top sources on google clearly states that it is indeed the Portuguese and the Dutch who got to be called Nanban in the first place, but it also came to include the English, Spanish, and even later on all the whites that came to Japan. Nanban is basically just a collective term to be used derogatively when speaking about white traders.

Well Ive heard there will be dlc factions in rome 2 however I wouldn't worry because they said that the game on launch will have as many factions as the original rome. Presumably included with the game. Rome had quite a few factions and unlike shogun they varied quite a bit in terms of look and the type of units they fielded.

The Portuguese adopted the Tercio military style a few years after Spain, and used it during wars with Morocco.

Kind of ironic that the Japanese referred to the Portuguese as barbarians when the latter had superior weaponry, more advanced ships, better navigational techniques and (at least back home) superior engineering skills.

Anyways, there is indeed more variation among Asian structures (which makes sense since Japan is an island) but the Koreans also made use of hill fortresses, so the core design is not necessarily unique. The Japanese also built a sea wall under the Kamakura Shogunate, similar to the Chinese idea of a land wall. People copy good ideas, it happens everywhere. Oh, and by the way, I'm not Portuguese, so it's not "my nation" I'm defending. Hell, I'm not even European.
