The UK is planning to construct an Irish Sea Bridge, a massive proposed megaproject to connect Scotland and Northern Ireland. An Irish Sea Bridge would transform the region, potentially boosting the local economies, increasing national unity, and putting the UK on the world stage. However, the bridge would come with a cost: $25 billion USD.

I live in rather rural Northern Ireland, and I definitely think we should focus on the train and road links on the island before looking at the sea. I’m from the western regions of Northern Ireland, where train/rail links are at least 40 miles away in Sligo or Derry, so we should focus on our own land-based infrastructure before thinking of making the bridge.

Just a quick correction, the European Investment Bank, Horizon 2020 and TEN-T are all EU organisms, having officially left I see no way the UK can achieve funding through those organs

Wait a second. How does this cost 15 billion less than the track and trace system that didn't work?

We’re fine with no bridge, the moat around Ireland has been working just fine.

3:58 'railway line from from Stranraer to Dumfries would need major improvements' exactly, these improvements would include reopening the line since Beeching closed the thing in the 60's.

The government aren't actually planning on doing this. Boris Johnson just mentioned it a couple of times.

If a conflict ever started again in Northern Ireland, god this would be an absolute prime target.

Now, imagine the potential if that bridge was equipped with tidal energy turbines and perhaps some wind turbines for the entirety of its length...

An under-sea tunnel with road and rail links would be the best idea, bad weather conditions, particularly wind or ice would be an adverse factor to the full operation of the bridge.

One issue: Irish and British trains use different track gauges

Boris always has an outlandish plan to build something big over the water

Instead of new megaproject the UK would be advised to upgrade the neglected NHS capabilities and checkout the PPE emergency stockpile that was mostly expired after a decade of neglect.

Still wondering why they haven’t built a bridge over The Dover Gap as that bridge would only be 32 km
