That description you described applies to a character named Kainé in the original NieR (Gestalt and Replicant), and Replicant remake which takes places more than 8k years before Automata. Her grandma was her maternal figure. Would be cool to have you react to the original Grandma soundtrack. I love that one a lot more than this.

But such an analysis by a specialist allows one to understand all the motives of this music
Yes, this song certainly has elements of memories of "grandmother"
But first of all, it is an invasion of aliens and therefore there is this "military order" in drumbeat

There is actually 5 versions of this one (at least) :
- this one
- the one from the original NieR
- the piano reinterpretation from the "piano collection" album
- the version arranged by Shroeder-Headz for the tribute album "Echo", which has I think a 4 hands piano part, this version is my personnal favorite
(these 2 versions are not in the game but they are officials)
- and finally the version from the remake of the original NieR.

You could make a video in which you compare how different artists worked with the same melody. This could be interesting.

I admit, until I saw a trailer advertising this game with this song cranking in the background, it was not even a blip on my radar. That changed when I saw a 1 minute reel advertising the game on Facebook.

As soon as I heard this song, I had to go look it up. It hit me so hard, like a freight train even. I was shocked that I never gave this one a second thought until hearing it in that 1 minute trailer.

People were commenting that the story hits hard, found the whole song and I was blown away. I snagged a PS4 copy the very next day. I also bought it on the Switch when it was announced as well.

Trust me when I say it is a must-play. Amazing game with an amazing soundtrack. This song is the standout amongst the pack and you are right, it is such a powerful track.

the title is Grandma because it's a remix of a song from the first game, where it makes more sense

Granma is a Nier song, not a Nier automata one... That explain the double message of the song since the composition is for Kaine's character and her backstory reinterpretated in Nier automata. The two song are very nice, but I prefer Nier's one since it's more charged emotionally and linked with the story...
