Feliks Zemdegs can solve a Rubik's Cube in 4.22 seconds. I can't.
But I can try.

In this video, Sabrina Cruz delves into the history and origin of the Rubik's cube, and learns how to solve one from the very best. She sits down with Rubik's Cube inventor Erno Rubik to learn what compelled him to invent the famous puzzle, and with world record holder Feliks Zemdegs to figure out how he did it.

This is an awesome video! Often enough we see videos about cubing for people who don't know much about it, but yours was different. The way you presented the information was true to cubing while also making it less daunting (because it really shouldn't be daunting). To be honest, anyone should be able to solve it by watching a tutorial, and getting faster is a super rewarding process.

"Yes."

UPDATE: Well... this is awkward. The record this video is based off was absolutely SMASHED by Yusheng Du in China who solved the cube in 3.47 seconds.

No lie, even learning CFOP in a month’s time enough to have a sub 50 solve is something to be proud as hell of! Awesome video.

I see what you did there

whoa I really like your comparison of speedcubing turns per second and human reaction time! That's something I haven't seen many speedcubing documentaries talk about, but it actually makes a lot of sense

I'm 51, and I first solved the cube 40 years ago this month. I never learned the full speed solving methods, and I'm too stuck in my ways to do that now, but my record is 23.8 sec, which I'm happy with. Kudos for getting to talk to the man himself, Erno Rubik!

I loved this video, I think it’s awesome you decided to join the competition knowing that you likely wouldn’t be able to match the times of other competitors. I always struggle with doing things that I don’t think I will be very good at or the best at because I am afraid to “fail” and people may think less of me. I find it encouraging seeing you participate and then look back and say yeah, I won’t be a competitive speed cuber but the experience and the learning was worthwhile. And I think that was incredibly helpful to hear! Fantastic content as always!

So the live chat closes about 5 minutes after the video ends. I'll keep that in mind. Anyway, do you guys like premieres? I really liked being able to watch it and chat with y'all.
(What if the premiere notification went up 30 minutes to an hour before going live, so you don't actually need to wait that long?)

Sabrina!!! Holy crap this video is so awesome. I just finished several months practicing and preparing for, and filming a series of videos almost exactly like this one, except for the Classic Tetris World Championships (I went and competed in Portland last month). I find world competitions for niche sports/skills so fascinating, in that you can see the power of collective human minds and creativity for coming up with innovative new strategies for simple, popular games, and also find really tight-knit, amazing communities. Awesome job putting this all together - it was an incredibly cool and relateable journey to watch.

6:16 yes, that does happen to begin with, we are usually all slower when first using f2l, but with time and pratice you begin to see how much quicker it is. So don't be worried, that happens to most of us to begin with.

Congrats on 49 seconds! Brings back all those 80's memories. Now I need to watch Donnie Darko.

Aw come on, that wasn't a total failure!
It took me two years to get under a minute, and you did it in a month!

Please don't give up on it. Keep cubing. I promise that the feeling of getting a good time can never get old. Stick with it and you could be as fast as Feliks
