The defense is that the lottery isn’t _for_ registering, but having registered is a requirement to be in the lottery. To their point, the people who won so far did not register for the sake of the lottery, but were already registered.

It's depressing but I think this is the result of politics becoming increasingly seen as 2 opposing teams. When your team cheats and gets away with it - "it's only cheating if it gets caught". When its the other team cheating people lose their minds. We see it all the time in sports and most politics now seems like 2 competing teams with their supporters not really giving a shit about the rules as long as their side wins.

How can you be so misguided? The law clearly says he cannot pay people to register to vote or to vote. He's paying them for signing the petition which is not the same thing. Am I missing something or is my English not good enough?
