Chicago guy here, jagoff is such a great word to express contempt or tell somebody they're really stupid. Much love for my brothers and sisters out in Pittsburgh and western Pennsylvania.

Hi, being from Pittsburgh I would have liked the mention of the reference:
Jagger bushes...
As in, "Don't prick your fingers of the Jagger bushes!"
A JAGOFF, is a variation of:
a Jagger that Jags you in a bush even to the point of scratching you or drawing blood...
just metamorphically like a "Jagoff!" can.
So, Jagoff really is a derivative of Jagger bush and not, Jack-off... in truth.
A Jagoff is a real "Prick", in other words.

Good stuff! Hey what happened to the episode about taking back the patio table?

This word comes from the Scottish word "jag". definition = a sharp projecting part (Merriam Webster). to jag someone is said to annoy or needle them. In western PA, shrubs with sharp barbs all over them are called jagger bushes. This word has nothing to do with the lewd reference whatsoever. I'm not jaggin' around here!

In Philly, I couldn't believe that this was a word you used in (semi)polite society, since it obviously sounds darn close to something else.

This reminds me of the vahls and mumbling the burghers do all the time. I used to live dere in the 1990s, and people on the Mahn did talk that way when they had an Ahrn in deer hands.

Hilarious video! Ok...so, I'm going to be my typical poindexter self and provide the following commentary. The root word "jag" is scottish in nature, and means something that needles makes sense in that when someone is annoying, they feel like they are stabbing you over and over again. This has been a public service announcement.
