SUMMARY:

Jock itch is a fungal skin infection that causes an itchy rash in warm, moist areas of the body. The rash often affects the groin and inner thighs and may be shaped like a ring - hence the name 'ringworm of the groin'. The condition is also called tinea cruris.

Jock itch gets its name because it's common in athletes. It's also common in people who sweat a lot. The condition can range from mild to serious. It usually clears up in 1 to 3 weeks with antifungal creams and self care.

We'll cover the following information which is split into sections and time stamped:

00:00 - Introduction & What is Jock itch
00:14 - Causes of jock itch
01:03 Symptoms of jock itch
01:37 - Tests for jock itch
01:52 Treatment for jock itch

Symptoms of jock itch:

- A spreading rash that begins in the crease of the groin and moves down the upper thigh and buttocks.
- A rash whose center tends to clear as the rash spreads.
- A rash that may be full or partially ring shaped.
- A rash bordered with small blisters.
- Itchiness.
- Scaly skin.
- A rash that might be red, brown, purple or gray depending on your skin color.

When to see a doctor:

See your doctor if your rash is painful or you develop a fever. And seek medical care if the rash hasn't improved after two weeks of self-care with the type of antifungal product you can get without a prescription. Also seek medical care if the rash hasn't cleared up fully after three weeks of treatment.

The great thing about not having sex is knowing it's not an STD

Air flow and sunlight will help also, 10-15 minutes twice a day to the affected area. Yes, sunbathing nude (or partially nude) will help kill the fungus, and heal the skin. Also, use separate towels and don't use the "groin" towel on any other part of your body, use a clean "groin" towel each time, or you may reinfect or spread the itch to other parts of your body.

If it clears but just keeps coming back, try to reduce your sugar intake, makes a massive difference.

The main deterrent to not contracting jock itch is to change your shorts everyday. You can't wear the same pair of shorts for days at a time.

I cleared it by applying oils - mainly a mixture of coconut and castor oil. I was surprised by how quickly it went away - 1 month - after having it for over 15 years! The description of it your provided is partly for 'pale' skinned people though. For dark skinned people, the affected area gets darker than surrounding skin on the thighs etc.

I went to the tropics for 6 months. One night I developed an uncontrollable itching in my groin area. The only thing I could find in the house was Betadine. I think it’s an Iodine solution. It completely stopped the itch to zero.
I hope that helps people out there,

When I moved to Hawaii the warmth and heat caused me to develop jock itch. I used to wear underwear briefs. I tried switching to boxer shorts but hated the feeling of all that fabric under my outer shorts or pants. Like wearing two pair! So I decided to go commando and the problem went away and I've never had it return! So set your boys free and air them out. Besides medication it's the best solution to the problem....

Head and Shoulders shampoo works as well, also you can use it to wash your underwear so it doesn't reinfect you, the trick is you have to keep at it till its irradicated for quite some time.

Got 'crotch rot' while on Guam in the military. OTC medication didn't seem to be working. So, I got a Speed-o bathing suite lay on the beach with my feet aimed at the sun. Did this as often as I could - problem soon solved. I did learn form this and went 'commando' from that time until I left Guam.

My husband had it for 7 years to embarrass to share it with his doctor.
We used Desitin (baby diaper rash cream) and Bepanthen (also used it for baby rash).
He prefers Bepanthen, says it's more oily and soothes the pain at once.
Everything was gone within 2 months.

Always been pretty fit and bathed religiously, but I have battled jock's itch, athlete's foot, and seborrheic dermatitis throughout my life. Some of us just have bad skin.

Had this many years ago because I was doing sports in the street (BMX Flatland) then go to friends house and usually didn't have access to a shower and fresh cloths till 4 to 6 hours after session, I didn't knew what it was precisely but I immediatly understood why. So I change my bad habits and tried as much as possible to go home after the sport activity, change my outfit and then I could go out; it did disappear in a few month.

Just use Atamon which is used to preserve jam.
it costs nothing and is really good.
Don't know if atamon can be obtained in developing countries like the USA

Stop the tree rash with Pevisone for 3-4 days, then treat with Inotyol until stabilized.
After years of bad treatments from various doctors, a dermatologist told me this. Now 6 years after, still symptomfree.

I became prone to Jock Itch after a round of heavy antibiotics. Wash the area and apply coconut oil and it disappears. Takes care of the burning and itching too. I keep a container of coconut oil in the bathroom and apply it after washing to keep it away.

Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes can also be responsible for non stop itching in the groin area too. Get your Blood Sugar Levels checked at your local Hospital or visit your GP. It’s important to get your Blood Sugar Levels checked if you are suffering from this condition and nothing seems to clear it up. Along with lethargy, frequent unrination and very itchy skin particularly the groin area, these are all symptoms of Diabetes. You may be Hyperglycaemic (Too much sugar in the Blood). Get your Sugar Levels Checked Guys and Gals!

Go straight to your doctor. I had it really bad in the 1960s, too embarrassed to show it to my Dad. I was sixteen years old. After about a year, yes a year of misery, he saw it, got me to a dermatologist who gave me a cream which fixed it in one week. Can’t remember what the cream was. I have since then needed hydro cortisone for other less severe situations. I am obviously prone to excema type or fungal conditions. I always get it sorted quickly. Don’t listen to any of the amateur stuff. The doctors have this thing worked out.

Part of the problem with treating it is that most of the talcum powders have gone away from the market (because of the link to ovarian cancer). The cornstarch based powders that companies have switched to instead are terrible. They form a gooey paste instead of keeping skin folds dry. It's just asking for fungus to thrive.
