Remember that when you do stuff outside your comfort zone and you do take those steps towards recovery, you will feel symptoms. There's not a single person. I know, including myself who didn't have symptoms during their recovery.

Your success and your recovery are determined by how well you respond to symptoms. So just know that symptoms are not the worst thing ever and don’t mean your recovery is failing or not working.

If only my workplace would listen to this. My doctor is ordering me to return on a reduced schedule, and work (and my manager) are throwing a fit, even though they knew this at the beginning of my leave. The modern American workplace is truly brutal no matter where you work. 😢

Very true. It's what Raelan Agle calls "the bookend" strategy. I have had the same experience. I do a lot of "work" and retraining and then do activities and that's when I see the results of the small steps I have taken. Then I rest, build more strength (Al all levels, mentally physically, emotionally) and do it again. And watch out for some mini crashes which I call them growth periods because I come out of them slightly stronger, but only if I allow myself to go through the mini crash with resting, self kindness and not panicking. Let's keep going guys. We can do this!

I have been fighting cfs for 20 years and made slow progress, but today as I was volunteering at my hospital, I suddenly became completely fatigued and has to go home. I am literally adding this comment as I'm laying in bed.

Great tip. Too many mind body people telling us it’s only fear holding us back. We should just run a marathon tomorrow with no fear. slow and steady wins this game.

Please God, HELP ME! I have literally lost almost ALL muscle and function in my arms and neck. I can't even bathe myself, wash my hair, brush my teeth, or even put my hair in a ponytail!! I don't know what to do about it. I need help. I feel like self exiting before I even lose the ability to do that. Then I'll really be suffering with no end in sight 😭😭😭😭😭. I can completely understood why most people who die from this condition, die by either heart failure or suicide.

This is so encouraging and a wonderful reminder about healing. It is never linear and that goes for grief, loss, recovery from addiction, break up of relationship and healing from illness or surgery. Wise words of advice and I'll keep pacing, loving myself and taking baby steps until I reach my CFS recovery!

I have been doing your method for about 6 months now. I have tremendously improved. Just wanted to thank you in advance.

While pacing is essential, I was unable to pace until I started to be able to sleep as I was locked in adrenaline all of the time. As soon as I changed the way I ate and basically just ate fatty meat I started recovering which made pacing possible. Sometimes there are other keys people need first either way pacing is always good and won't harm you.

The way I corporate this is I have a daily schedule of activities which i keep in excel workbook. and daily I'll see how many tasks i completed and aim to complete all the daily tasks. once i become consistent in them without a major symptom flare up, I'll add more tasks. And if I start to struggle then I know its time to take a little break or reduce the workload and recover. Thats helped alot in tracking and improving in my recovery

What about people with post rxertional malaise? I feel like im just getting worse and worse. Even when i don't do much, i still end up with heavy crashes.

i feel like chronic CFS is caused by an underlying issue. sleep, diet, sun exposer. possibly a severe nutrient deficiency. i’m currently dealing with this and i’ve been trying to crack the code for a while. I believe even if you’re doing everything right, that 1 thing or a variety of things are so off that you cannot pull yourself out of whatever it is. good luck to those who are trying to get back to living life normally.

How do you know what your “baseline” is?

I noticed more energy with taking up calcium (phosphate) supplements again, which I paused for a couple of months. Indeed, some research seems to confirm this:

Effect of cholecalciferol and calcium supplementation on muscle strength and energy metabolism in vitamin D-deficient Asian Indians: a randomized, controlled trial, 2010
"Six months of cholecalciferol and calcium supplementation results in enhanced skeletal muscle strength and physical performance"

Yes that's how i do it. Nurturing yourself and know your limits. And break up the contact to people who are abusive because if they expect you to be a slave like usually when you cooked and baked for everyone or renovated for them and entertained, and worked, and took care of elders and everywhere you was loved and welcomed when you were their little perfection and then they toss you away and try to hurt you with words or physical you will not get better, that's just hurting yourself. And if you are thinking you can't get away cause now you are sick and they dont go but abuse you, then yes you can go, you can always go and if it's in a tent with a sleeping bag, and if you crawl. Can use a water filter and a small cooker this can you even use with a cotton pad that you pulled through wax, and a little shower outside.

I have been dealing with host of issues along with cfs onset suddenly last year and after going to almost 30 doctors and getting no diagnosis doing n no. Of tests, one day I saw an article regarding mold toxicity ( probably a god sent article) and it aligned with majority of my symptoms. If any of you have systemic issues and mysterious illness, arising out of nowhere pls rule out mold toxicity . And 25% population has susceptible gene for mold toxicity so there are chances. Pls look into it.. i have gone crazy since beginning of 2020 with weird symptoms unrelated to each other and finally almost after 5 years i think i will have a diagnosis.

How do you know you might have it? Is there some kind of indication with in some of your blood work? Anything?
