My mother in law is moaning about loosing the winter fuel allowance. She is a millionaire.
All benefits should be means tested.

My generation (pensioners) are the richest demographic in the UK by a huge margin ! We benefited from cheap housing, final salary pensions, early retirement on full pension from public sector jobs, massive profits from house values, and a triple lock scheme which guaranteed bigger pension rises than workers pay rises. And yet my contemporaries are whinging about losing a £200 energy payment when young parents can't feed or clothe their children.

If millenials should give up netflix and avaocado toast to save up for a house then pensioners should give up a night of bingo to offset the winter fuel payment.
Weird how they think it works for one group but not themselves huh.

I mean, there really is a horrible attitude of "I'm alright Jack" stinking out the UK right now. Well, England in particular. And it's reaching a point where it's hurting the people.

100%.
I've been saying the same. My mother spends £600 a month and has £2200 a month income. She also has half a million in assets. She wants to know where her £300 is.
She wants her grandkids to keep paying and working until they're 70 to pay for it.

He's right. I'm watching pensioners who are spending £40/50/60 a week on beer complaining they aren't getting winter fuel anymore and I have zero sympathy for them. I haven't got £40 to throw at beer every week, none of my friends do either. I'm looking at another winter where my boiler isn't going to be in more than 30 mins a day and I'm sorry I just can't sympathise with people with so much disposable income.

About time someone said it. The grip the 70+ demographic has on politics in this country is a disaster.
The generation that was born into unprecedented wealth and has spent their entire life dismantling the state need to have their hands taken off the wheel. I'd say before its too late but I think it already is

The UK needed Corbyn as Labour leader, but people rejected him, and they are now getting what they deserve. It's just a shame decent people have to get dragged along for the ride.

Well said - everyone is so emotive over this topic but this is just pure logic

I'm 71, have no problems means testing the winter fuel payments. I feel this chaps pain and frustration. I think a lot of older people feel the same way. Ironically the people I know who are complaining about stopping the payment are conservative voters...

This man should be an MP = He's passionate about his cause and we need NEW IDEAS

The UK has a culture where living your entire life on the dole is not seen as shameful. There is NO stigma attached to any kind of handouts or welfare, and that is simply ludicrous.

I'm in my 50s and I am up that creek without a paddle and am fed up with anyone who sits on their wealth and preaches to everyone else.

I’ve just been on a trip to Tuscany, Italy in September where some pensioners were complaining about not getting the WFA. The holiday they were on, each cost £2000.00 for 7 days. It’s obvious that they didn’t need the WFA. I rest my case.

Someone I work with was complaining about how she had to cancel a holiday to pay for her winter bills. This was one of several holidays she had planned this autumn.

In my grandparents retirement apartment there is a bloke who owns a golf course, who was moaning about no getting the WFA. He drives round in a Bentley!!

Sounds familia.

Bob Dylan 1964:
"Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'"

The utter greed, selfishness and arrogance astounds me! As a pensioner (that’s the first time I’ve described myself as that!) I am shocked at my contemporaries attitude to the WFP. I don’t want it, I don’t need it and the money should be used for something that truly matters. If we were given it, I would donate it to charity.

Shame on the people who are making a fuss but don’t NEED it! Yes, you pensioners reading this - SHAME ON YOU!
