This seems like the worst period.
Even the market are now very unpredictable. Started investing recently when the market prices were a bit high, today I am more than 60% down!

A big lesson I learned started about 20 years ago when I was drinking with some friends and one of them pulled out his brand new 1st gen iPod and said look at this…..I remember playing with it a bit, thinking that’s really cool and that was about it. Probably drank another beer. The older wiser me of today would have thought that’s really cool, gotta buy some shares in that company as that little gadget is a game changer. Today when I see an opportunity like that I’m much more likely to take the leap. Trust your gut and ignore all the BS that gets thrown around.

I missed on Netflix before it went public. I was working in a USPS processing center (1999 - 2021ish) when Netflix DVDs were being given special treatment and we processed thousands of them every day. I wanted to buy stock but it wasn't publicly traded at the time and I just didn't pay attention after that, forgot about it and never bought.

I didn't get serious about investing until 2020.

Now I keep a list of companies like that and check up once or twice a year.

One of the things with netflix in the past was the level debt of they had. Looking now it looks much better but I never gave them the look they deserved because I "knew" they had massive debts 🤦

Blockbuster had went online as a competitor where they would mail CDs or stream. They should have been the Netflix of today. They had the brand, they were just slow to respond. Just like Sears should have been the Amazon, Sears started with a catalog, had big box stores and could have went back to online catalog but didn’t have the vision or speed to adapt to change.

Not seeing streaming as the future sounds a lot like not seeing robotaxi as the future of transportation. Not seeing that the technology comes in fast… thinking that competition will take away… can you not see a parallel about your thought on Tesla and the thoughts you use to have with Netflix…

No change in the wire into the home? Swing and a miss. Dialup, ISDN, DSL all the way to fiber optics into the house over the years. When it comes to tech your analysis skews to where the puck is vs where it’s going. That said… do appreciate your content!
