My spouse is a federal employee of well over 25 years. We've gotten pretty used to this constant threat of shutdown. The vast majority of federal employees do not get to stay home during a shutdown. The only thing that stops is the paycheck. Yes, they get back pay when congress finally decides to pay them. But creditors are not very understanding.
