Budgies or parakeets are the most popular pet birds in the world, but also one of the most neglected. They are cheap and easily purchased by anyone, which means they’re often impulse bought. Budgies are highly intelligent, sensitive beings and they are PARROTS.

Budgies are the betta fish of the bird world. Just because something can “survive” in a tiny space doesn’t mean they should.

Budgies are the most popular parrot, yet so underrated! They're "popular" because they're easy to exploit and cheap to not care for, and easy to replace! They are SO intelligent and deserve so much better!

I think we are giving our budgie Stormy the best life we can. He has a large cage, plenty of toys, likes seed, pellets, fruit and vegetables. He sleeps on us sometimes in the day and every day he sits on my shoulder while I'm working, chattering and whistling. He is so amazing and loved and I think he's happy :)

I don’t have budgies but I do think that the way the pet stores handle the budgies makes them loose their trust in humans. I am upset how they only sell tiny cages for these bird:( they deserve better.

My grandmother passed away 2 years ago and now I’m taking care of her budgie. She has spent most of her life in a cage but after watching your videos, I’m going to try/attempt to tame her enough so she can come out and fly around. I’ve also been looking at your cages so that’s also given me ideas on giving her cage an appropriate makeover. Thankyou so much for all your uploads!!! Super helpful

I wish I watched this before I got budgies. They can be a pain sometimes, but they are underrated! All birds are cute! Also I love parrot playhouse!

We had 3 Budgies growing up and found them extremely easy to care for.
We let 2 out, and one of them stuck to me like glue and was such a great reading buddy 😂
Also, they can be very cheeky (Luckily, my great grandmother was deaf lol ), but I swear by these birds ❤

This video should be required to be watched before chain pet stores are allowed to even sell a budgie. So many kids get heart broken when theirs dies at 3-5 years of age, and cant figure out why when they did everything the store said to, with their small cages, all seed diets, free feeding millet hanging in the cage all day. Yes, buy your bird all mirrors and those cozy hide aways.... I get the feeling they do this on purpose so your birds do die faster, that way they can sell you another much sooner....

I also see this a lot on the parakeet reddit. Impulse bought budgies, what gender is it, what why is it laying on the cage floor, why wont this thing tame in 1 day?!!? Drives me up a wall, just because its a low cost creature doesn't mean you should treat it like dirt :(

I don't get how anyone can ever buy any pet without putting any time or research into keeping it alive and happy for as long as possible!

Love your videos by the way :D

Budgies are hands down the best small bird to own. SO MUCH personality in those little guys. I really love and adore them. I have had many types of birds but I always go back to budgies. I feel like they are under appreciated because they cost $20 bucks at any pet store. People tend to value things based off their worth (why I get quite angry with those who own extra-rare-exotic breeds for their own amusement and not as a rescue).

I just lost my parakeet she was 10 years old and I am devastated. Is 10 years a long life for a parakeet. She always flew around the house and walked around the house like a little puppy. She really slow down over the past year and was having difficulty climbing out of the cage like she had arthritis. She was amazingly intelligent and she only took to me and no one else. My bird would land on my dogs bed and tease them. When I was home I always let her fly around the house. I always kept my heat on 75° all winter long just to keep my bird warm. I am lost without my parakeet and out of respect I am not going to get another one for a while . She was definitely one in a million.

My African Grey parrot recently has been suspected with having a digestive-nervous condition in parrots called PDD caused by avian bornavirus. But interestingly enough, I recently read that Budgies seem to be immune to PDD. We've been building a large 3 storey aviary for my bird in our future home, and it seems budgies are definitely the way to go for our aviary, as we don't have to fear them contracting bornavirus from our African grey parrot (if she does end up having it). Great video!

my family is getting a budgie, and me and my mom have been watching your videos so much! your tips are so useful and my mom even built the cage on her own, im learning how to make bird toys for my budgie and im so excited to get him/her to the point I already have some names in mind

Keep in mind: the ‘bin of birds’ you see in pet smart are NOT tamed and will take much more work to train than purchasing a hand fed budgie. Still doable! Good luck with Pablita Elle and good for you for educating others!!!!

Ps, at the New Orleans aquarium there is a ‘bird house’ where budgies are just flying EVERYWHERE crawling into your purse or hoodies it’s awesome!

Parakeets are social birds.
You do need to spend time with them everyday. weekend, week out, all month, all year year after year.
My parakeet, when I was 10 had not a large flight cage (I didn't know) but it didn't matter she was out of her cage almost all day and only ended up in her cage at night time.
Because they are smart they need stimulation and not just toys, so if you start to spend less an less time with at least get another parakeet of more for company, just remember that when your tame or semi-trained bird is put together with others birdies they tend to forget about you.

This really helped me learn more about budgies. My mom said if I lost 20 pounds she'd buy me my own pet. I chose a budgie. Budgies are a little hard to take care of, but not too much. Thank You For Posting This.
