The monkeys are a reference to a Japanese Maxim of the Three Wise Monkeys who physicalise the actions of “Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil” by covering their ears, eyes and mouth respectively. In Buddhist tradition, this references avoiding evil thoughts and deeds.

However, in the West it’s interpreted as turning a blind eye to bad deeds. Kind of like how Rebecca feels like she’s been abandoned by those she loved and is horribly sad and angry as a result

Lauren the missing kid David mentioned in the secret tape is the kid from the secret tape in the first game. Where she was fixed on watching the show while her parents tried to call her for cake and ice cream as it’s her birthday. But when they turned their backs, Lauren disappeared.

PS kudos to Ryan for helping Mike on the monkey puzzle. I watch both of you guys + Dawko a lot. Especially when you all played Monsters and Mortals together

The choice of doing it to feed the kittens might hav emeaning too in choosing the survival of family or the survival of children over that of a loved one's presence or joy.
