I tried Organ Trail on a recent live stream, a game very similar to Oregon Trail, but now with zombies.

Next you should try Death Road to Canada. Very similar to Organ Trail, but scavenging is a lot more in-depth, and there aren't really any scenarios as specific as the hostage situation.
