In this video, you will learn how to shuffle a deck of cards like a professional, casino dealer would learn in a poker dealer school. We take you step by step through the professional shuffle and really slow it down and explain the details of how to shuffle cards. Below are the concepts discussed in the video. This will work well even for beginners.

This is great for home games too because you learn how to shuffle cards without bending them or exposing them.

The steps to shuffle a deck are as follows:

Wash the cards - Every card face should touch the felt at least once in a wash. A full wash is about 7 seconds or so and is done either the first hand when a new dealer sits down or whenever a suited deck needs to be shuffled. A mini-wash is for all other shuffles and is about 2 - 3 seconds.

Collect the cards - Either surround the cards with your hands and bring them inward, or you can kinda close your fingers on them, pulling them into a tight pile with your fingers.

Pick up the cards - Take one card off the top, and put it on the bottom - now you can hold all of the cards. Then turn the deck away from your body since this is poker.

Square the deck - Place your hand next to the cards that you're holding to prevent them from going flying and drop them on the table to create a flat edge to work off of. Find some cards that are horizontal and create an inlet on one side with an index finger. The hand that created the inlet will push the whole deck toward your other hand. The thumb of your other hand will spin the cards together to square them all up.

How to Riffle the deck - This is the tough part of learning how to shuffle cards. Mirror each hand on the deck for these instructions. Your middle finger and your ring finger go toward the top edge of the deck, and your thumb is opposite them. The index finger floats in the middle. The pinkies go on the outside of the deck. Split the deck in half. Index fingers go to the insides of the deck halves. Bring the deck halves together by push your index fingers against each other. Slightly angle the deck. Slide your thumbs to the corners of the deck halves and get them underneath the corners. Flatten your fingers with your pinkies on the outside. Riffle the cards by letting the cards fall. Pinkies push the riffled deck together.

How to box the deck - Keeping the deck parallel to the table at all times, take the top quarter of the deck and place it on the felt. Take the next quarter of the deck and place it on the first quarter of the deck and then again. Take the last quarter of the deck and place it on the rest of the deck.

After squaring the deck, the sequence goes Riffle, Riffle, Box, Riffle

Clear your hand - Quickly show the full palm and full back of the hand that will cut the deck to the ceiling.

Cut the deck - This is done with only one hand. The cut card goes in front of your deck. Take either one third or two thirds of the deck off the top and place it on the cut card. Place the remaining portion of the deck on the first part.

Clear your hand again.

Place the cut deck into your hand - To square the deck away, either take your thumb and index finger and brush the cards together or take the front knuckle of one of your fingers and push them together. You never want to prevent someone from being able to see the top of the deck. One proper deck grip includes your index finger protecting the top of the deck and your other three fingers protecting the side of your deck with your thumb in a flexible position on the other side.

Now you know how to shuffle cards like a pro!

I just have to say that I'm a professional dealer and I love how seriously you take our job. I've encountered so many dealers who just don't give a fu*k... but to me, being both an enthusiast of poker and a professional dealer - I genuinely love how you take our profession so seriously. I'm the same exact way and most of my co-workers just don't understand it. I like to deal in the most professional way possible. Anyway, great channel, great videos!!

Thank you I dont know how I can thank you enough. You have saved my life. I was accepted into an amateur casino in my country despite being a beginner. Now I can earn some money dealing cards during the pandemic. I learned all the basic from you.

You are so thorough, easy to understand, speak nice and clearly. If anyone dislikes or left anything other than great feedback, they are idiot kids. Thanks for the video.

many of my friends think shuffling decks properly is just a waste of time... but a good shuffle makes poker much more fun and fair. I'm glad i saw your video...

Thanks! Very kind, and it's nice to hear the positives from people such as yourself. It more than justifies making the videos.

At the same time, working in casinos requires thick skin. You should hear what they call me when I am making a floor ruling after a player went all in, left their hand unprotected and it gets mucked before they get to the showdown! ;)

"I am sorry, sir, but I simply can't take your word for it as to what your hand was. Please protect your hand in the future..."

Your videos are very well done.

Been dealing in a casino for 15 years. We're running a class of new dealers through, and I'm going to recommend they all take a look at your training vids.

Very professional and deliberate fashion of shuffling cards to where nobody knows what cards they have, really helps me randomize my cards for solitaire LOL. Great tutorial though ✌️

I'm not sure what is the typical learning speed, but I've got this down on the 3rd try!  The hardest part to remember is clearing my hands, but I'll get the hang of it quickly.  Thank you for your videos!

In other situations where no department in the casino keeps their own tips, it can be a very quick transition into the poker room, and if everyone keeps their own tips in table games, then it really depends on the action at the tables and the culture of the poker players.
