Americans released from Russia in prisoner swap reunite with families | VOA News #shorts

VOA's Press Freedom Reporter Liam Scott is at Joint Base Andrews where just after 11:30 pm three Americans released from Russia landed on U.S. soil.

They’re being greeted by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris — but more importantly, they’re being reunited with their families.

Dozens of reporters are here to capture this historic moment.

Waiting for journalist Alsu Kurmasheva are her husband and two young daughters.

The youngest, Miriam, will celebrate her 13th birthday on Friday. She hasn’t seen her mother in more than one year.

Kurmasheva is accompanied by journalist Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan.
