In this video I show you how to propagate Staurogyne Repens emersed. This technique is incredibly easy. Anyone can do it. In fact, this method works very well for most aquarium plants. Emersed propagation gives you more plants, faster, meaning you can create a lush aquarium carpet relatively quickly (for cheap). All you need are a few items and some starter plants.

Here are some affiliate links to products you can use to setup your own emersed propagation tub. If you purchase through these links then I receive a small commission (which helps support the channel:

My advantage living in a tropical country, I just place them in a pot, 1 inch of soil and 1.5 inch of gravel or pumice or lava rocks, submerge the pot with the plant underwater in a tub, placed outdoor facing the morning sun, and let the plant emerse itself, the emersed form can be then cut and replant at the same pot or to a new pot, still the pot submerged underwater. To prevent algae, I float water lettuce to the spaces of the tub.

Nice video. I paused halfway through. Put potting soil in an unused 10gal with an led on a timer for a tissue culture I found today. Awesome idea. I've never grown emersed befor.

I have two 20 gal planted tanks I'm going to tear down and put everything into a 55. Really excited to see how these goes

Very interesting! Isn't it a bit of a waste of energy having non-transparent covers for the plants? Can't wait for replicating it. Greetings from Germany.

I bought 3 packages of staurogyne repens from petsmart and they were not even a inch tall and looked unhealthy.

Just subscribed. Excellent description. I bought some S repens about 4 weeks ago. I suspect they were grown emersed. They seemed to do well for about a week to 10 days and definitely grew a few millimeters. Then over the next few days they started to lose the nice healthy appearance. After a few more days one or two of the plants started to show signs of melting. Now all 7 of them are melting. I intend to just let things run the course and see what happens…or would you suggest I do anything different?

Pretty cool. Can this same method of propagation be used on s.repens when they are in dry start method?
