Exploring the types of data repositiories has made my approach to digital marketing evolve into a multi-dimensional perspective.
Initially, it was all about getting products in front of people. Now, it's about leveraging different types of marketing such as SEO and SEM to build a database (for analysis purposes) which will help us gain a deeper understanding of our audience, and refine our strategies in order to reach our goals. I mean, we had done that before, but from a digital marketing perspective and not a Data Analyst perspective. Key word - Perspective.
This perspective would have been valuable in 2020, when were in the heart of JHB CBD, when we were in Hillbrow.
We began selling waist trainers.
We allocated R100 to boost a Facebook post across South Africa over three days.
This modest investment provided valuable insights into our audience, revealing that :
1. Women aged 24 to 34 were particularly interested in our products.
2. They were hesitant to buy on our website. They preferred to order via WhatsApp.
3. The rural areas were an untapped dimension.
This went well, but we hit the ceiling wihh th the data we sourced and utilised. If we had delved deeper into the data, we could have achieved even greater success.
Understanding why these women were buying waist trainers-whether for post-pregnancy, fitness, health, or beauty— would have enabled us to refine refine our strategy and target our marketing more effectively. We would have expanded our catalogue successfully. As early adopters of Facebook marketing, we initially enjoyed significant returns, but as competition grew, our results waned.
Reflecting on this experience, it's clear that a robust database and thorough data analysis are crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. Now, with a better grasp of data-driven marketing, we're poised to leverage these insights for more strategic and effective campaigns moving forward.
