LANDING AT LUKLA AIRPORT | Day 1 - Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek | Nepal travel vlog 2019

The first day of our trek to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes in Nepal! We left Thamel, Kathmandu at 2:30am to drive to Ramechhap, Manthali Airport. All flights to Lukla were departing from this airport due to Tribhuvan International Airport being congested. We flew on a small plane with Summit Air to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla.

We had breakfast at a teahouse before beginning what was supposed to be a 3 hour trek to Phakding. It rained and the hike took us a little longer than expected. We were shocked by the beauty of The Himalayas already and it was only the first day. We crossed some suspension bridges and saw a lot of animals carrying goods along the trail. We went to bed straight after dinner as we were very tired from a big day.

Oh that airport! My brother and I did this trek in April and had to take the bus ride to Ramechhap airport as well. Miserable, long bus ride but great scenery. We were at that airport the day the Plane crashed into helicopters above in Lukla. Ended up in a tent outside the airport to fly out the next day. Great trek, life changing experience.

Everything looks like a hazard the runway the plane & as you look down you see the landslides the ageing suspending bridges. And more landslides. But as you land back to Kathmandu you get a sense of achievement & happy that you are fully back inspite of all the hazards. Lucky & blessed
