This affects me directly as a trans woman. I'm also a USAF Veteran who volunteered to fight and was willing to die for everyone's right to live freely. To have the right to exist without the government legislating my basic human rights from me and my community. The country I was willing to die for is now labeling me as something less than human. I don't think Trump does care about the trangender issues. Many of his followers do, so he panders to them to get their votes. What Trump does care about is Trump. He will say and do what he has to do to get his way. He will pander to whomever he needs to pander to accomplish his goals.

Thank you for documenting all this, Will. Disgusting that he targeted vulnerable people to get reelected, and now he acts like he can't imagine why "it gets massive coverage" and "it’s ripped apart our country." This was apparently one of the key issues that got him elected, so it will be interesting to see if there's pushback to his backtracking. Hopefully it will be like The Wall Mexico Will Pay For, and no one will care. But even if he does nothing, it still doesn't absolve him of the dangerous situation he created when he fanned the flames during his campaign.
