I have had debates with many on the internet who say, *"Abolish dowry, then we will abolish alimony"* and though I agree with that, I always have to remind them that Dowry is non existent in Singapore, USA, Finland, Norway, Sweden etc, but alimony is far more prevalent

However, in countries like India, Pakistan, and nearby regions, cultural influences have changed this practice so much that many Muslims follow traditions like dowry instead, which Islam actually forbids. I found it surprising—and honestly, a bit ridiculous—when I first learned about this in Saudi Arabia. Before that, I had never questioned it, even though my own family gave dowry in my marriage. It’s strange how people claim to follow religion but end up prioritizing culture instead. Islam clearly states that a man should take financial responsibility before marriage and only marry when he is capable. Thankfully, some men today are rejecting dowry, but many still don’t. It’s frustrating how people talk so much about religion yet fail to truly follow its teachings, choosing culture over faith while believing they are deeply religious.
