The Russian president's announcement that countries "unfriendly" to Moscow must pay for gas deliveries with rubles shows that he's willing to use energy as a weapon in the Ukraine war. It puts the West in a tight spot.

The war in Ukraine has wreaked havoc on the global economy as the world reels from high energy and metal prices. As the war rages, DW looks at the fallout on commodity markets since the February 24 invasion.

Commodity markets are in the spotlight as Russia keeps selling its oil and gas through specialized dealers in Switzerland. The business brings in billions of dollars that could be used to fight the war in Ukraine.

Yes only West has the right to tell if a country is democracy or autocracy.

LNG from the USA means super expensive LNG, not cheap to transport LNG across an ocean compare to getting it from a tap from Russia.

Answer: EU.

The US government got themself EU as desperate buyers for their overpriced oil and gas. That's a catch, congratulation to US. And good luck to the EU's members in maintaining their economic competitiveness.

"Germany taking a pragmatic approach..." that's too funny. Replace pragmatic by hypocritical.

EU is a guy who shoots his leg and blames his neighbor for that because this bullet was meant for the neighbor.

Seizing foreign reserves of another country is very troubling. This removes any trust developing countries have in these countries. USD Euro Yen and Franc are no longer trust worthy reserves.

US do not need Russia's gas, but other countries need Russia's gas. US benefits the most in NATO expansion and Russia sactions.

Hypocrisy of idealism at its best is on display. Is it idealism or opportunism 😆

Why is the reporter not mentioning at what price Europe will have to buy those crude oil from USA? Do you know the US oil is of lesser quality and needs more refinements means more costs. All these would be pass to end consumer ultimately in 6 months or so. Looks to me US gained a big customer and successfully snatched the business from its competitors at a higher price. Masterpieces 💪
