E-Learning systems | We will rely on the community to protect these schools: Kwazi Mshengu

As part of achieving one of its goals to make schools innovation hubs for quality teaching and learning, the Education Department has piloted two E-learning systems in 100 schools in two of KwaZulu-Natal's poorest districts. Now the Department is rolling out the new modernised way of teaching and learning to 54 schools, all equipped with computers, laptops and smart devices.
Today Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr. Reginah Mhaule is at the Cosmo Primary School in Howick.
SABC news reporter Simphiwe Makhanya spoke to KZN MEC of Education Kwazi Mshengu.

But without the rollout of network coverage in rural areas especially the LTE networks this initiative will fail because children need to access network even at home because I know they might install the satellite internet receiver at school but at home there is no satellite pupils will not be able to do their homework and practice how to use the latest technology so to me the network coverage is the priority in rural areas because without it the rural schools will still remain behind in terms of technology that is even a disadvantage when they are in universities where more of this is used.
