This is just one way to create a rain effect for your stop motion short film. I used a combination of practical water applied with a spray bottle and a video overlay effect from FCP X.

Dracuvan is my first original stop motion short film. It took over 8 months to produce.

Dracuvan synopsis:
In 21st century Dublin, Dracula decides to adapt his bloodthirsty ways into a modern day business venture - a mobile blood donor clinic - Dracuvan.

Dracuvan teaser:

Written, Animated & Directed by Joseph Orr
Voice Acting by Sinéad Doyle & Joseph Orr
Music by Kevin Carrick & Joseph Orr

Using both does sell the effect much better than one or the other.

I’ll definitely have to try out that practical rain effect. Thanks!

By the way, how were you able to use water without ruining your sets?
