Camera Advice For Beginners (What Camera Should You Buy As A Beginner?) #photography

I had a great chat with @scylla_r34 recently and we talked about what sort of gear to get as a beginner photographer. And my response might surprise some of you.

For me, when you’re just starting out it doesn’t matter what camera body you get. Most cameras made in the last 10-15 years will be a great starting point! You don’t have to feel intimidated about making the perfect decision on what to get as your first camera. And there is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ camera or a ‘perfect’ time to buy one. My recommendation is to just get something that fits your budget, can shoot in RAW and manual mode, and allows you to change the lenses.

From there, you will see massive improvements if you just get out there, start taking photos and practicing! 😊 And once you have saved up a bit more money, upgrade your lenses. You will see a more improvements to your images and in the image quality of any camera when you pair it with good lenses!

So just go onto Facebook Marketplace, or eBay, or whatever, pick up a camera that fits your budget, and get out there and start shooting.

I currently use my a6400 I’ve had it about a year and bought a sigma 35mm 1.4 art and I plan on getting the 24-70 2.8 sigma when I switch to full frame.

Hey thanks for the awesome car vids and content, you inspired me to get out there and take some pics with my a6000 with the kit lens and I loved it so much I upgraded to the a7c with the 35mm f1.8 and it's been so much fun. Thanks for showing the real side of getting out there, seeing cool stuff that we like, and capturing amazing super high quality memories.

You could never dislike Ben’s content. I’ve shot with my kit lens on the A7 III, and he’s right. Sometimes, you don’t get the best shots, but if you take time and know what you’re going for, the kit lens can get you some great photos. Now, I’m looking to get a GM lens that I can use for several pictures without buying several lenses

I'm starting out in automotive photography. I currently use my smartphone and edit in lightroom mobile following tutorials like yours. I want to make the leap towards a camera and i want to ask you for a recommendation: From a mirrorless camera like the Nikon Z50 or a full frame like the Canon RP, both within the same budget, which one would you choose from those two or do you recommend any other new or used model to start with? Maximum budget of $1, 350 USD for something new. Greetings from Mexico!

I was thinking of getting a sony a100 and buy some lens separate, does it sound like a good choice

your photos aren’t really that great. You can get results like that with literally any camera you just overedit them. Don’t think lens are important role here.

Terrible advice. Learn to shoot with a kitlens - learn the exposure triangle and its limitations. Shooting cars would need your aperture to be f4+ anyway. 50mm is a good lens for beginners tho. But with your subjects ( cars) you can do away with a kit lens just fine.

also this is terrible advice for a beginner. Doesnt matter what gear he has if doesnt understand the basic fundamentals of shooting like the exposure triangle or grid rules, understanding the histogram etc etc. dudes telling him to go drop 3-600 bucks on glass he doesnt understand. a t series kit lens is perfect for a beginner no need for the extra glass for at least 6 months.
