The only reason why I'm keeping the 1.8 is because of the stabilization, macro and size. I don't think image quality is night and day to the 1.4.

Ok, not really. I replaced the one I busted. I bought an EF 70-200 F2.8L version 1 about a year ago, and it served me surprisingly well on my R7. But a couple of months ago, when the Sakura trees were blossoming, it came loose off the mount adapter. It won't focus on AF or manual past 70mm...so I now have an $800 70mm f2.8 prime. So I went and found a used version 2 with IS of the same lens, picked it up today, and now I'm prepared for my daughter's junior school graduation.

You also use the NISI step up rings. They are really great. I used a lot but these are great and you can attach them easily and lose them also easy. Other rings are from aluminium or something and can get stuck.
