2024 - How to Apply for Australia ETA Subclass 601 on App

The ETA Subclass 601 allows travelers to visit Australia as often as they like within a 12-month period, staying up to 3 months each time. The application, which costs AUD 20, must be completed outside of Australia using the Australian ETA app.

Open your passport to scan the personal data page, ensuring it is flat. To avoid glare, consider switching off the lights and using natural lighting. Allow access to the camera. Make sure the entire page fits within the frame. The frame will turn green once the document is captured correctly.

Place the device on top of the passport, ensuring the NFC antenna touches the area where the chip is located. Move the device around the passport to locate the chip. Once the app starts reading, hold the device still.
Check that the information is as it appears in the passport. If the given name appears in the family name field or the name shortened to 24 characters, you don't have to rescan, they are ok.

To take a live photo, ensure the applicant is present, dressed appropriately, and positioned in front of a plain, well-lit background. Align the applicant's face within the on-screen circle. Check any error messages to reposition the face. Once correctly aligned, the circle will turn green, and the app will capture the photo automatically.

Check for existing visas, including ETAs, to Australia. Select the country of birth and indicate if the applicant has been known by any other name. Enter the home address, mobile number, and email address. A verification code will be sent to the provided email. Confirm and save the profile. Select the ETA type and the applicant's current location. Complete the declaration, answer questions about criminal convictions and domestic violence. Provide the intended address in Australia, including contact details if available, or explain why if not. You can edit any inaccurate information. Click "Next" to proceed with the payment.

3:26 - After the Application
You will get a notification.
In most cases, you will be notified of the result of your ETA application immediately. However, some may take one month or more. Your application may take longer if you do not complete the application process correctly or further information is required. It is recommended to apply well in advance of your intended travel date.
