Can You Guess the YEAR? (Rocket League: 2015 vs 2020)

How do players with 100 hours in 2015 compare to 100 hour players in 2020? In this video I put 3 Rocket League coaches to the test. With the 2020 players using exactly the same cars as the 2015 clips it becomes an interesting guessing game. Can they tell the difference between two identical looking lobbies? Are players really improving faster in 2020? This is isn't "guess the rank" this is Can you Guess the Year?

2015 calculating and deliberate plays.
2020 up on the wall and diving at the ball constantly.
Everyone wants to be the next squishy.

This is awesome. I thought I had it at the start but then wavered a bit in the mid. Definitely one of the best videos I've seen recently. Only bangers coming from this channel my man!!!

As someone who started playing in January 2019, I can safely say that you learn so much more faster now because the game is "solved" for the most part and people like Rocket Sledge give you great video guides

1:57 showed the ball come off the wall without even so much as a bounce, so I knew very very early

Plot twist:
This is actually just Sledge and 5 Rookie bots. Good luck telling the difference 😉

I knew it as soon as the Dominus (Player 4) half-flips at 7:03

Gonna try to comment without spoilers, but also: why are you reading comments if you haven't finished the video yet?!

Something I feel might be a factor (just a theory) is that in 2020, the playerbase is a lot bigger than it was in 2015. Someone who had 100 hours in 2015 may well have just been more dedicated to the game, or simply more interested in learning it; someone with 100 hours in 2020 might be more casual, they have friends that pulled them in, it was on sale on Steam, etc. In both cases, 100 hours is still a good dedication to the game, but I feel like in 2020 it's *easier* to rack up those hours playing more casually. Farming Rocket Pass items, playing Rumble modes... lots more reasons to just play without feeling pressure to practice rotations, mechanics, etc. It just introduces more variables into the 2020 games especially, because the playerbase has grown so much and become more diverse as a result.

Those flicks in game 2 were a dead giveaway for me. Great video, Sledge!

The halfflip at 7:00 gave it away for me. I knew halfflips couldn't have been a thing back then.. I saw it in the corner of my eye and could tell what it was right away, without going back to it. Hard to tell though without that, good video!

All I saw was a Dominus doing a half flip a one point and knew which was which.
Plus the landings in one of the games was hilarious.

I knew from literally the first kickoff. In 2015 when the ball rolled up the wall it popped out. Somewhere along the track they changed it so it sticks to the wall more

the ball chasing in game 2 told me right away that it was the 2020 game

Cool vid. First thing i looked for was transparent goal posts before I even looked for mechanics that came into the scene in later years that even new players use

Moose did his best to defend himself, At the end of the day a great majority of us was looking at mechanics, aerials, and game speed. In Moose's defense he forgot that after RLCS 1 and 2 people became ball chasers due to seeing pro's or other high tier players ball chase. During season 1 of Rocket league every one was just afraid to touch the ball and get scored on.

What gave it away for me was how active everyone is on the walls in 2020, everyone seemed scared of it in 2015

there was a solid half flip in the second clip for the second game. thats what sold me on it being in 2020
