Weakening the position of the working class is the entire point. The more vulnerable you are, the more easily you can be exploited. It's the same reason that many businesses are against single-payer healthcare, because it would reduce the number of things they can threaten you with.

Of course it’s an entitlement. I AM entitled to it. I got it my first part time job while a junior in high school. I paid into it for 50 years. And now at 70 years old, my Social Security is the only income I have.

My great-grandpa went into the coal mines at 7 years old, in 1875, because his dad had skipped out on the family and there were no opportunities for a single mom to earn wages in their town. He was a breaker boy, which was absolutely miserable child labor.

The day my g-gpa turned 70 he showed up at work to the mine and they said "go home old man, you're no use to us any more." No pension, and he was born too early to buy into SS. Fortunately my g-gma had borne 14 kids, of which 10 survived to adulthood. So he was fed and housed by some of them.

That's what the republicans want to return us to, roll back the clock to the gilded age.
