Patients and viewers often ask when it is safe to have a bath, hot tub, or swim after surgery. There are, of course, concerns with any incision being submerged before it has healed. The surgeons discuss these issues and others in this episode.

Fantastic video as always!!

This is exactly the same info as my orthopedic doctor and staff told me after my total knee replacement surgery.

I waited until the scabs on my incision were completely gone and then waited another week just to be safe. It was at least 6 weeks after my surgery before I went back to enjoying the hot tub.

Once I was able to get back into my hot tub my recovery was even better as I was able to help the muscles and tendons heal/get back to normal faster with the nice warm water while exercising my knee in the tub.

The hot tub also seemed to help reduce the swelling using the tub in addition to using the ice pack when not in the tub.

Between the hot tub and the ice therapy I had better blood flow helping the joint heal faster and thus increasing my range of motion. 😊

Great advice. People need to hear this in relation to showers and a bath. Too many people do not understand this.

Keep the videos coming! Not only entertaining but informative! Also I agree, don’t do hot tubs earlier than told, they are dirty. My daughter would get ear infections from going under water. She knows better now.

It’s been almost 8 weeks since ORIF for broken ankle and I still have a small scab. I’m not going in any water for the foreseeable future. Thanks for your information. Always so informative.

I'm preparing for two TKR's and a THR over the next year or so so it doesn't sound like I'll be getting much use out of the hot tub. I really appreciate the informative videos. Thank you!

Can you do a video of HOW to properly get into and out of your house bathtub after a hip replacement? I just want to take a normal hot bath at home but I cannot find any videos how to properly get in and sit in the bath and to get out. I am only finding how to shower using a bath bench after hip surgery.
