Im glad FNAF 2 is being reworked due to the criticism to the first movie. Alot of people complained about the lack of dotted eyes, lack of horror, kills being done off screen, William being underused, and the plot being messy.

Wow Battington I get that you didn't like the movie but you didn't have to get into a springlock suit and start haunting your local pizza shop to prove a point

I do think William still being able to lure them as the rabbit even after killing them was cool, ghosts aren't very rational and are usually 'stuck' as who they were, and kids are already little dummy dumbs, but it is completely incompatible with Golden Freddy still somehow knowing the rabbit killed garret and the kids being these schemers with intricate plans, like it just doesn't work, they're only smart/dumb or mindless/schemers when it's convenient

I like that Max the babysitter seemed like she didn't really enjoy what she was a part of. Not bad to have one tragic character in there. I believe they established the other guy was her brother.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion, and this one is very respectable. I'm glad you addressed that literally any opinion or side you give on the internet is destined to be torn down by those who disagree.😂
I personally loved it, but I still acknowledge that from a storytelling-scripting stand point that it is an "okay" movie.

I'm glad you didn't stick to one side of the argument, but rather hoped back and forth, finding a middle ground that can be appreciated by anyone. - This is a great in-depth review, and was really well constructed, and it probably helped that you held off, as it gave you time to gather your thoughts, and let the 'hype' die down a little.👍

“I don’t think my opinion matters”
I literally thought to myself at least 10 times “I wonder what Battington would think about this” while sitting in the movie theater. The visual raw aesthetic of horror you add to the series is something that has always stuck out to me over the years and you’ve perfected it so well. It has definitely been influential in at least keeping my interest in the FNAF universe. I was really hoping the movie would emulate a similar feeling.

This is basically exactly how I feel about the movie. The animatronic costumes/props themselves looked very good and the actors did their best, but there was a lot of iffy stuff in there. It sucks that some people are making it into a "REAL™ fans" thing and implying that anyone who makes any criticisms is some faker/dumb normie whose opinion doesn't matter. It happens in every fanbase but still 😵

And yeah, the situation with the different alternate universes/timelines is getting crazy lol. I don't think we're ever going to get concrete, streamlined explanations for the events of the games canon. Just more AUs loaded with parallels that still don't confirm 99% of things

i loved the ominous shadow of trauma that has so much potential for Vanessa. I highly anticipate flashbacks of her childhood being corrupted by Afton in the second movie. good option for storytelling :)

You’re good man, everyone should be allowed to speak their minds and I think your critiques were respectful all thing considered. I’m a little surprised you were as harsh as you were on the fort scene. That’s one hill that lovers on this movie will gladly die on so I hope they don’t come for you over that one, lol.

At least it’s good to know that Scott is open to criticism and is revising the script based on feedback which is what really matters. Cheers.

Thank you so much Battington. Your creations brought so much life to the franchise and the series of games that- sadly to say from a critical standpoint- wasn’t brought out in the film. Absolutely adore what you’ve made and always struck home to myself and many other fans of fnaf. I was so baffled when I came out of the movie theatre, although I had a good time, I was shook about the writing. At first I assumed I thought as a fan I had over hyped it, but now after being able to process the film and what it didn’t show from the games, I have so many notes and optional revisions and critiques just jot noted in a corner of my mind. Seeing that you made this review made the whole experience 100 times better, and again, thank you for your wonderful creations❤️ Very much dear to my soul

I think the chair is supposed to represent being stuffed into a suit with the crossbeams and animatronic parts. In the Training Tape they show an endoskeleton being worked on in that chair.

I think the chair could still be well implemented if they repurposed it as a contraption that's used to assemble/stuff the animatronics' suits

i think the movie is best described as campy; not to be taken seriously and embracing the obsurdness of its concept. Definitely a love letter than a well-written story. Almost a reflection of what the series turned into: baby's first horror experience. Honestly, kind of expected it at this point. Didnt set my hopes too high. Still enjoyable nonetheless, mostly due to my nephew loving it. Kind of jealous of his oblivious optimism 😅

Honestly, the babysitter situation could've been resolved with a simple "it's late and she fell asleep so Abby goes out on her own". Like you said, they establish that Abby has a connection with the ghosts. It would've been pretty easy for them to convince her to sneak out and go to the pizzeria (it also gives more for the audience to speculate on and higher stakes). All this to say, I still had fun watching the movie but I also didn't go into it with high expectations.

i gotta say this is a great review, probably the best i've seen. i'm glad that you looked at all angles of the film to get a full picture on what should've been changed, and how they could possibly fix some things for a sequel. i also find it funny that at the beginning you mention that you were scared about giving your opinion yet i've seen the majority of the fnaf community pretty much agreeing with a lot of the things you said. i'm happy people didn't go into a mass hysteria and divide the fandom over the film sort of like how security breach did, and i'm glad to see a lot of big named fnaf creators come out and give their opinion and show that they aren't afraid of talking about it's flaws.

as someone who has been with the community since 2014 when i was like, 9 years old ( lmao ), i came out of the theater satisfied and not upset or mad about anything. my only real negatives with the movie are that i just wish they did some things differently. for example, i wish that it was made more clearly that the blonde kid that goes with abby near the end of the film was golden freddy. multiple of my friends who saw the movie were like "where the hell was golden freddy?", and if it wasn't for the fact i was a complete nerd over this franchise, i wouldn't have been able to tell either. i also wish william afton wasn't underutilized and only appear at the beginning and end of the movie. it would've been cool to see him lurking around in the shadows to show that something is up, and that there's some mysterious man controlling things leading up to the big reveal of him at the climax of the movie, but instead we just get vanessa implying she knows more than she lets on. speaking of which, vanessa as a character frustrated me. i had a hard time connecting with her because it felt like her entire character was just being the fnaf wiki, constantly explaining things to mike instead of us getting cool scenes that explain things. ( i heard somewhere that there was a deleted scene of mike looking at a news report talking about the missing children incident which would have been so cool to see, but instead we got vanessa just telling mike about it in an info dump near the end ).

there's a lot of stuff i liked though. i absolutely LOVED the practicality that this film had, from the set design to the real life animatronics, it really goes to show that there was a lot of actual love and care put into this movie which i appreciate a lot. my absolute favorite scene from the film was when mike first shows up to the pizzeria and walks around exploring the place when it's all dark, then finally getting a creepy and unnerving look at the animatronics on stage which imo, captures the feel and atmosphere of the first game perfectly. the music was also a great highlight. the soundtrack that plays at the end when the pizzeria is falling a part while mike and abby help vanessa out of the building as william gets springlocked was actually quite emotional. i was so happy i had a huge smile on my face throughout that entire scene. ( which is funny because you are literally witnessing the brutal death of a man that has killed multiple young children ).

overall, i'm happy that this movie exists. it's flawed, it's got problems, but it's also got charm. just seeing all of the behind the scenes photos of the cast and crew with big smiles on their faces makes me really happy knowing that this was never made with any intent of milking the franchise or just trying to get a quick buck. hearing that the script of the sequel is being reworked after the response to this movie makes me hopeful for this franchise. if i had to give it a rating, i'd give it a nice 6/10. it could have been better, but at the same time it could have been a LOT worse ( which i'm glad it isn't ).

I think the cupcake is pretty much the best part and my favorite character in the movie. Such a goofy and killer character. 😂

I literally took notes too lol,

These are my notes from my first watch if anyone's curious (the timestamps are for the movie in case I wanted to rewind):
Matpat you mf
The action is a lil silly
46:27
Woof, she's in half now
They want Abby? But that's not what they want, they want to protect kids.
If Vanessa is on the job, why is she playing fort and wasting time in Freddy's?
1:07:57 Ella?
Shoot him, Yo what? That seems like an overreaction!
Oh...so she's aftons kid? Well alright then.
Are they under aftons influence?
The puppet stuffed them, not Afton???
At least he's not British
WHY'D YOU UN MASK HIM?! THAT MESSES WITH THE TENSION!!
"I always come back!" WHY?! THAT HAS NO BARING ON THIS STORYYY

Excellent points raised, my guy. I agree with essentially all of them. So great to hear they're reworking the sequel script based on feedback. With your short film in the works, I know for a FACT you'll be giving Blumhouse a run for their money! 🧡
