I'll agree, from what I have looked at my books, C&C is the real 3rd edition D&D. WotC screwed it up.

I absolutely adore C&C! I think their 10th printing of the PHB is the best version. All the info in a clear, readable format. They give you rules options so you can scale the crunch to your liking.

I really love the SEIGE system. It incentivizes a human centric world while still giving useful options to other pc races.

I think it is truly one of- if not, the best game that melds old school stylings with modern rules.

AD&D was supposed to be a basic framework you modified to suit your house rules. Once upon a time I had a whole binder of homebrew rules and charts. Just ignore TSR and play how you like: why is this so hard?

Switched from Pathfinder (never played 5e; jumped off the WotC train with 4e) to C&C and haven’t looked back. Great system.

Went from 5e to PF2e and was miserable. Tried C&C and loved it. Company I am part owner of, Ripped Tabard Adventures, writes 3p modules for the system with a campaign coming out this year.

There are many things I like about C&C so I'll just add the first one that comes to mind - the speed of the 'combat round.' While I haven't played at a high level yet, I can imagine the combat round doesn't get too bogged down as the party progresses.

What a brilliant business decision!

The variant with primary, secondary and tertiary attributes is great to give the game a little more flexibility in types of characters and competence without giving up the class-based resolution of the SIEGE engine. Instead of 18 with +0/+6, you have +0/+3/+6 depending on the attribute. You can also change the "18" base to really tailor the game to your style of GMing, so it's EXTREMELY flexible for any particular game table, which is an enormous plus for any game, really.

I run my hack of Old School Essentials, Which is more of Grounded Heroic Fantasy to get some new and 5e players to be interested. I like it as I still enjoy Heroic Fantasy but now dealing with fewer rules bloat and a faster more dangerous games. As the PC has a 1d4 death save, slightly more health, a Luck system( inspiration), full casters get cantrips, and a roll-to-cast magic system to help them to survive better but it is still unwise to charge at everything and it is often best the think of another route due to the more dangerous combat encounters and way less HP making combat not so favorable on the party. but that's how my party plays DND and I'm glad C&C was the game for you.

yes!! Castles & Crusades is what D&D would have become after 2nd edition if Gary Gygax were still part of the process. I absolutely love C&C, and I strongly agree with this video's message.
Also, side note, Troll Lord Games is a very generous company who loves their customers and creates consistently awesome content.

I like that C&C has a pretty good dark sun conversion. I’m happy that wotc doesn’t want to touch that setting (so far 🤞)

Yes! The C&C gang are a great representation to the succession of Gygaxian games! Far, far better choice to 5e and the WOTC garbage dump!!

These people either act like you can't go back to an older edition or they'll shame you for doing so, because they're like those rich kids, who had the best PCs, able run the newest games. I played 5th edition once (in a homebrew world, where we were some advanced version of lizardmen, which was a letdown, because I wanted to play a Dwarven priest of Abbathor), with people, who can be regarded as consoomers and I really didn't like the fact, that my fighter knew how to use every weapon.

This game is pretty much perfect. I'm more of a 2E kind of guy if we're talking about older Editions. B/X is a good foundation but needs work and doesn't provide enough options. 1e is very good but is really more of a smorgasbord of rules that you have to cobble together a good system from. 2nd was an improvement on this, but it still needs some help. C&C definitely fulfills that Goldilocks role. Just enough innovation and quality of life improvements, not too much so that it waters down the game it takes away the challenge.
