Donald Trump calls on Putin to sign Ukraine ceasefire deal

US President Donald Trump on Monday said he wants to see Russian President Vladimir Putin follow through and make a deal to end the war in Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters inside the Oval Office, Trump said he doesn't want to have to move forward with secondary tariffs that he's previously threatened to impose on buyers of Russian oil, if it can be avoided.

President Zelensky has acknowledged for the first time that his troops have crossed the Russian border into the Belgorod region, in a move that will infuriate President Putin just as his forces are pushing the Ukrainians out of Kursk.

Russian military bloggers posted ­videos this week showing destroyed Ukrainian armoured vehicles inside Belgorod. The Institute for the Study of War, an American think tank, assessed that Kyiv had moved a few kilometres across the border in a limited incursion.

Neither Kyiv nor Moscow has confirmed the reports, though Russia’s ­defence ministry claimed ten days ago that its forces had thwarted five Ukrainian attempts to push across the border in Belgorod.
