Ah, you were at my side, all along... a half-hour-long phase 2 extension of everyone's favourite Ludwig the Holy Blade. A song not only stated to be the best soulsborne ost, but one of the best video game ost's period

This kinda reminds me of Gael, in a way. When Ludwig stops fighting like a wild beast and starts fighting like a knight again as he suddenly remembers what he used to be. And the soundtrack nails the feeling of 'you haven't seen anything yet...'

I remember just mindlessly watching youtube and finding this ost. That was what convinced me to buy Bloodborne, my first Fromsoft game. No regrets.

Ludwig is opposite to the Father Gascoigne:

- Ludwig start fighting like a beast, and he retrieves a shred of his humanity in the last phase, allowing him fight like a hunter.

- Gascoigne start fighting like an aggresive hunter, only to eventually succumbs to the plague in the last phase, and become a literal beast, mentally and physically.

And even this is supported by the fact that Ludwig and Gascoigne are only weak to serrated weapons in their first and last phase respectively.

I love how the hunter in the picture wields the holy blade, but only one of them has the holy moonlight sword

The Moonlight greatsword's described as Sentient (not just bloodborne but all Fromsoftware games)
So the Blade helping Ludwig regain his humanity. I believe that The Moonlight greatsword in Bloodborne is a Great old one itself. Ludwig didn't create it, he found it. It was stuck to his back and nobody could wield it except him.
Even as the most putrid and disgusting Beast, Ludwig was able to pick up HIS Blade. But once the Blade sees us defeat Ludwig, it becomes ours. Since we've proven we're strong enough to wield it. It's found a new master

I prefer this fight as opposed to him constantly screaming from every single attack he does. More refined combat techniques than flailing like his ass was on fire.

Ludwig and his holy blade are such increadable characters to me. For one he manages to do something that not many or any other character does in any fromsoft game, he reclaims his humanity even if for a short time. Everything about his second phase screams this fact, his posture changes from a snarling hunched over beast to upright man weilding his mighty sword for one last time. His theme changes from something you expect from a horror movie monster to something reminiscent of a protagonist making their glorious return to save the day.

Just fought him today. I managed to beat him first try probably thanks to being overleveled via some chalice dungeons (around level 110 on NG), but the cutscene and music were absolutely incredible. I for sure can see why it's regarded as the best boss in the whole game.
