I support this 100% the people who would take that kind of advisory notice seriously aren’t welcome here.

I’ve lived in South Florida the last 7 years and I never felt fully comfortable or safe outside my community. Not to travel to the beautiful springs around the state or anywhere too far from I-95.

In the lead up to the 2016 presidential elections, there was a parade route past my house with largely working class Hispanics waving Cuban flags AND MAGA flags AND even some confederate flags.

There are tons of Floridians who don’t agree with the GOP increasingly fascist platform in the state but our presence in the state hasn’t guaranteed our own safety let alone the safety of others visiting. Look at Trayvon Marin’s murder in his neighborhood at the hands of a white Hispanic man.

I think violence and fascism has been so normal that it’s easy to take the position of the dude in this clip.

The question is not, “Is the NAACP making unfair generalizations about Floridians by making this travel advisory?”

The question is, “Does Florida law enforcement and legislation make the state a hostile and dangerous environment to people targeted by past and recent legislation?”

Openly gay Floridian here. . I have not experienced hate solely based on my LGBT status. I don’t agree with a lot of DeSantis BS, but that’s just politics, not the everyday people who live here.
